Xmas Present: Beringer Ultrachorus.. keep??

mmmmmm.. I'm trying not to be a total Ebeneezer Scrooge, here,
But this just arrived from my brother on the left coast, who's also a musician, and whom I also thought was well aware of the fact that most of my pedals are of the *booteek* variety

He's also got to have noticed that out of maybe a hundred little boxes strewn about my studio, NONE of them are chorus

So, he's either figuring that I somehow never got around to picking one up in the last 35 years, or his guitarist just upgraded his rig, and has 're-gifted' an old pedal he had no use for

It works, but I'm pretty happy with the 'vibe clones & Leslie sim modulation pedals I've had for decades, and I don't really know what to do with the thing

I noticed it's got two outputs.. Maybe it sounds better in stereo?

I realize that when it comes to gift giving, it's the thought that counts - I just can't figure out WTF he was thinking

Who knows, might become my favorite pedal ever. Stranger things have happened

I've read that this company's know for cloning 'classic' circuit designs. Is their Ultrachorus a copy of a famous, rare & highly sought-after effect??

If you get the confirmation on that board that it is a copy of a famous, rare effect you will keep it? Otherwise you want to get rid of it?

Why don't you just let your ears decide? But I'm afraid it will never sound good to your ears, as long as nobody confirmes that it is built after a famous, rare .....

Just curious, is all, really
Like many of us, the '80s kinda killed my tolerance for the chorus sound, and I ditched my little blue BOSS pedal way back then

And this one sounds nothing like it

Or the big Roland 'Chorus Ensemble' I had in the '70s

It actually sounds cool with the rate & depth dialed way back - definitely not what I was expecting. With everything dimed, it's even more whacked-out sounding than the modulation on my Deluxe Memory Man, just not in a good way, unfortunately

It's got a tone control, too. When did they start putting tone controls on chorus boxes?

1990 I think?

I'm thinking of installing a high-pass filter or variable crossover in my Boss CE-3. I want to use it with dirty sounds without the bottom end getting muddied up or the top end sounding shrill.
