Hoarders, watching it now.

My wife and I are just trying to sit thru one episode. I have heard of it, and the problem of a hoarder is not something new I suppose but, I have never seen the show. I am nearly speechless. I'm sitting here and cannot even begin to describe what I'm seeing and what could be wrong with these people. There are obvious physical issues but the bulk of the problem is something clearly on the inside, mentally and emotionally. Then there are the animals that are often involved. It is all just a so overwhelming. Have any of you ever seen and actually finished an episode of this?

we watch it now and then, it has been good for my wife who's not a hoarder by any means but has emotional attachments to stuff, and has a hard time throwing stuff away. the show has been good for us so she sees how silly it is to keep unnecessary things.

the first time I saw it, I wanted to go clean out my house immediately. It is definitely hard to watch, but somehow hard to turn off.

Ive watched it, but I just can never wrap my head around that kind of looniness. I find myself appreciating their problems but I can never get over how BAD some of those people live. I work with a guy who is a hoarder but even he (and he is horrible) cannot touch those guys.

I saw a commercial for a show called "weird addictions" or something like that and they had a woman who eats comet cleanser and another woman who walks around with a dummy talking to it all day long.

Exactly, I just can't even being to imagine what is going psychologically with this mindset. Then again I'm the type of person where if you stand still long enough in my house you'll be on eBay by nightfall.

I once went to a hoarder's house unknowingly for a rehearsal.

I now have an unnatural fear of my house getting like that and I know it bugs my wife sometimes. It messed me up for life.

That show pretty much cold-turkey stopped me looking for old amps all the time!

Yes I watch it sometimes. The people who hoard have a serious emotional/mental issue - not their fault. In ALL cases, it seems to have started after a traumatic event in their lives.

It does make you want to clean the house for sure.

I just wish that mental issues were not displayed for public ridicule, these folks have enough problems without all the pointing fingers. I also realize, at the same time, that without the TV show, there would be no garbage trucks and organizers sent....

Every time my wife watches it she comes to me and tells me it is time to sell guitars. I hate that show.

The one thing that you see in almost all the episodes is that the stuff is more important than the spouse or the kids. Beyond the hoarding, what you also see is a person who hasn't cleaned or picked anything up in years. The smell....

I have a bunch of NOS tubes but when I put new tubes in an amp I can't bring myself to use them because they are too unobtanium. So I just keep hoarding them.

I bought a pedal off a guy from craigslist. I picked up at his place, and he was every bit as bad as the people on that show. He was really excited to show me some other gear he had (it was nothing impressive) but it smelled so bad I could hardly breathe. It was hot, humid, stuffy, and smelly in there. I got out as fast as I could (without being rude; the guy was creepy and I was worried he was gonna snap on me).

Or the years and years of human feces kept in small plastic bags.
