The Serious Jazz Practice Book for All Instruments

Just bought this off Amazon. Looks good, anyone have any experience with it?

No, but I'd love to hear more about it. I looked at the Amazon page and the description has me a bit skeptical (since it _seems_ to be a scale approach, and I'm not a fan of those kinds of approaches for myself).

Jazz players with chops, including Charlie Parker( I have a recording of him demonstrating) are quite facile with scales and sequential scale patterns whether or not they sound like they run them all the time.
Barry Finnerty is badass with a lengthy resume, playing with some of the most respected serious jazz legends. It makes sense that his books should be so 'Serious'! There are other pattern books(David Baker's in particular) but Barry has his own slant that is worth checking out.
