Boss GT-10 question

Alas, since there is no GT-12 on the near horizon, I'm considering a GT-8 or 10 for EFFECTS ONLY (no distortions or amp modeling) and have a few quick questions:

1) I know there a bazillion different ways to set up effect banks/chains on this one, but can you turn individual effects on/off with the footswitches? That's one thing I love about the M9 and hope this is possible on the GT-8/10.

2) Would I miss any stompboxes (mainly modulations) if I move exclusively to a GT-8/10? I mean, I have my analog fuzz pedals that I use along with my Egnater M4, but I would be using the GT for tuner, delay, reverb and modulations. Can the GT cover all that? How is the reverb?

3) Is the 10 THAT much better than the 8 with regards to effects variety/quality?

Thanks
Buck

There is none more powerful than the GT in this regard. Any pedal can be assigned to control anything, and if I remember correctly a single pedal can control multiple things. You can even set the operation mode between toggle or momentary. Very slick in this regard.

Honestly, this can only be answered though your experimentation as the answer is subjective. Here are a few few clips to demonstrate some effects available, though the clips focus more on the modeling than effects.

This clip features their slicer type effect, subtle delay, subtle reverb, and the looper.

Slapback and spring reverb

This track has compression on the clean track, the wave synth, delay, and other stuff.

The GT-10 is better and easier than the GT-8 - The only thing I don't like about the 10 are the bright red lights. I put black tape over part of each one.

Hey! New poster here. Owned a gt8 for 2 years, and a 10 for the last 3 years. I just wanted to see if I could help you out here. As far as programming it has 8 assigns you can use per patch. You can have one switch control 8 things simultaneously. Sounds to me like you will be the type of person to use manual mode where all the bank/preset switches are used like stompboxes. You can program these separately from assigns to turn on/off whichever effects you want and still use the assigns for other stuff. The different types of parameters you can control with assigns is staggering, from drive amount to phaser depth to just about anything really. As far as reverbs go, I only use them on clean patches but the sound ok. The delays are pretty amazing. They have a high cut parameter which darken the tone of the repeats plus just a s*it ton of other cool stuff. I have used a damage control Demonizer in the effects loop for my drive sound the entire time and always lived the flexibility of the loop in general. I'm buying an eleven rack because I want more drive tones, I hate the cosm amp models but I require a tight, high gain distortion. Anyway, hope this helps! If you have any more questions ill be here checking back and respond accordingly

the quality of the reverbs, delays, modulated effects, and tweakability of the GT-10 are better than other mfx units out there IMO. If the amp modeling and overdrives / distortions were on par with other units it would be THE # 1 mfx unit to have pricewise (let's face it, no unit out there can really take on the AxeFX quite yet when it's fully dialed in right). Still though they're not THAT bad. You can get some seriously good sounding tones out of it. Use the Full Range model and it's just about like using an FRFR amp. Use your own drive pedals and you can go far with the GT-10.

I'm willing to bet Boss is cooking up a new mfx unit that they're keeping a tight lid on until it's ready.

How about the GT-10 compared to the ME70 if I'm using it w/o sim? I'm using a ME 70 into Tech 21 Characters, then DD5. Is the Delays any better? I guess the effects loop is tempting me.

I was using the GT10 with my Rebel 20 4CM. Mods, delays, and some of the ODs were good. The compressor is not bad, but a little noisy. I never could get a good reverb out of it though. Just too metallic and grainy.

OMG, I'm such an idiot. I have the GT8 and never use it because I never could get my favorite drive sounds out of it and I never considered using the effects loop.

Thanks for that little nugget, now I know what I'm going to be doing all weekend! Man, it would be sure nice to know what I'm doing every now and then.
