Recommend a good big band album

I need some good big band music from the '30s through the '50s to download to my iPod. A variety of bands and songs would be great.
Anybody here have any recommendations?

I would start with Duke Ellington's "Live At Newport 1956"

+1. My father wore this vinyl out when I was a kid.

p.s.

there's a great double disc called thelonius monk big band/ quartet. one disc is the monk quartet, the other the monk big band. not your typical big band stuff, but stellar nonetheless. both discs are live.

Thought of another that is more a modern take on a 50's big band thing. Very well recorded with modern players:

Darcy James Argue's Secret Society

Not classic Big Band as OP was requesting but thought some of you might enjoy this contemporary take on the music.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Modern recreation, but well worth the listen.

Sinatra At The Sands (with Count Basie Orchestra). Tight band, great singing.
