Fender 70's Reissue USA question
I came across a 70's reissue fender USA w a Z serial # and the 60th annv logo on the back. It has a 4 bolt neck and serial # on the headstock.
What is this? Its not a AVRI and I cant find anything else. |

From Guitarnucleus.com
With the year 2000 came the introduction of the "Z" prefix serial numbers on US made instruments, which stood for the 0 of the new millennium. A Z0 prefix dates to 2000, a Z1 prefix dates to 2001 etcetera. The American Deluxe Series instruments use the same dating convention but with the addition of a "D" in front of the "Z", i.e. DZ1, DZ2 etcetera. Once again, and as always, there is typically some overlap and carryover of number prefixes from year to year.
SERIAL NUMBERS PRODUCTION DATES Z0 + 5 or 6 DIGITS DZ0 + 5 or 6 DIGITS (Am. Deluxe) V + 5 or 6 DIGITS (American Vintage Series except '52 Telecaster) 2000 Z1 + 5 or 6 DIGITS DZ1 + 5 or 6 DIGITS (Am. Deluxe) V + 5 or 6 DIGITS (American Vintage Series except '52 Telecaster) 2001 Z1 + 5 or 6 DIGITS Z2 + 5 or 6 DIGITS DZ2 + 5 or 6 DIGITS (Am. Deluxe) V + 5 or 6 DIGITS (American Vintage Series except '52 Telecaster) 2002 Z2 + 5 or 6 DIGITS Z3 + 5 or 6 DIGITS DZ3 + 5 or 6 DIGITS (American Deluxe Series) V + 5 or 6 DIGITS (American Vintage Series except '52 Telecaster) 2003 Z3 + 5 or 6 DIGITS Z4 + 5 or 6 DIGITS DZ4 + 5 or 6 DIGITS (Am. Deluxe) V + 5 or 6 DIGITS (American Vintage Series except '52 Telecaster) 2004 XN4 + 4 Digits Z4 + 5 or 6 DIGITS Z5 + 5 or 6 DIGITS DZ5 + 5 or 6 DIGITS (Am. Are you sure its a 70's RI and not a HWY 1 or another model with a big headstock?

If you have a serial number, you can find the year. Then google the year and model and narrow it down by features.
My quick look on the interwebz shows that Fender had 60th annies MIM, MI USA,and some CS models too. But this is the web--so you have to check a few sources. Find the models with the big headstock, '70s reissue, and go from there.

The USA AV 70s has a serial number that starts with "V" on th neck plate. The guitar is from 2006 if it has the "60th Anniversary" logo. I suspect it is a Highway 1 guitar. 2006 was the year that the Highway 1 was last updated, but that update happened mid-year if I'm remembering correctly. The original Highway 1 series had a model with HSS pickups, 21 frets, and the large 70s headstock/logo. At mid-year the revised Highway 1s came out and all models had the large headstock, 70s logo, but they all now have 22 frets.
If it is an early 2006 Highway 1 (large headstock/21 frets) and it does not have an HSS pickup set then someone along the way changed the pickups to SSS. |

The 70's reissues have a 3 bolt neck, not 4 bolt.
