Traynor reverb question

I have a Traynor YCV40 amp. I've seen a lot of people complain/point out that the Traynor's reverb seems to go from very little to oversaturated and "tone-sucking" very quickly. Those of you with the Traynor amp know what I'm talking about.

My question is... is this an issue with the actual reverb tank that comes with the amp, or is it an issue with how the amplifier sends signal to the reverb? My guess is it's the latter.

In that case nothing can really be done about that shortcoming aside from electronic modifications, correct?

Thanks for your time!

Contact Traynor

They sent me a new level pot for my YCV40.

Not an extremely difficult install, bot not for the faint of heart.

Overall, made a little difference, especially on the lower levels.

I'm not sure if this helps but I have 3 Traynors (YCV50, YCV40 and YCV20). The reverb is different on each of them:

YCV20: In my opinion anything past 1.5 on the reverb dial is unuseable (sucks all the tone out).

YCV40: Decent reverb, but I had Traynor mod the amp to change the presence control to a master volume control. Now the level of the reverb changes with the level of the MV control.

YCV50: Decent reverb up to about 5 on the reverb dial. Level does not change as you change the MV.

Traynor Mod

I did the Traynor YCV40 mod to my amp and the master volume and reverb both work as they should.

I am wondering if Traynor did a complete trouble shoot on your amp before they buttoned it up.

No way to know. It doesn't bother me, I just set my volume before I set the reverb.
