SO I've been having some fun with this Kauer Big Boy

Doug loaned me this awhile back and i've been learning it.
Really a unique guitar. My first experience with TV jones pickups, I guess 'gretsch' vibe...really an articulate bucker style..unqiue! I can't help but play ZZ on this bad boy.

Doug's more known for his Daylighters, but this was too cool not to share.
I'm really having fun with it, and the guys eyes bugged out at band practice!

Not sure if Doug is making this a regular model, but it's purty damn cool!

Running through everything I own, I must say it's got this sexy blues tone to it. Plus there's a variatone wich gets some cool honkiness. Fun shit!

Cool guitar. I can definitely see it summoning up some Billy Gibbons riffs.

Did you meet Doug at the shindig Jim? His Wife Theresa is who sang with me.
Good folks.

Mike glad you're enjoying it!!

I completely agree about the Filtertrons. They surprised me, waaay more like a clean chimey bucker than "massively gretsch". I think the Grestch sound I hear in my head is Dynasonics or the HiLo's that are in my '60 single anny.

I'm contemplating building another one eventually with Dyna's in it (mewhwhahahaa)

NOW its time for clips! BTW is the varitone useful at all for you? There was a couple half decent sounds in there but I never finished experimenting with it.

It's a lot of fun. I don't find myself using the variatone much though. Couple cool settings, but I get confused easily.

LOL that's how I felt about it. It was kind of a roving thought experiment in my head more than anything.

Being a long term Gretsch Fanatic...

I often thought that the TV Jones pickups were great sounding pickups...

but not really a "Gretsch" pickup. they're way too well made to be a "Gretsch".

and thats some great looking work Dougk

Always liked that body style.

I should mention something here, the Big Boy is not a regular model of mine. Mike Potvin actually builds this model full time as the "Mercury".

Occasionally we build each others guitars for kicks, the Big Boy was a pet project of mine that sounds much better when Mike plays it

(BTW Ron and Bruce, thank you for the kind words, those are GREAT compliments from fella's like you guys!)
