Eating more carbs in winter probably isn't all that bad .... your body needs to generate more heat Just stick to healthy soups, chili and stuff like that. I figure you can be bad and pig out at least once a week if you stick to your workout routine.

We've got a lot of snow in Boston this year. After shoveling for 7 hours a day, I'm certainly not eating a salad.... I'll have 3 burgers, a cup of coffee and a poptart.. You burn more calories in the cold because your body is trying to keep you warm.

I generally eat pretty well, once in a while I'll do a restaurant grease-fest burger or something.
Beer is my kryptonite, I like like to decompress once a week from my stressy job. My current fitness goals have me re-examining the Friday night 6-pack

Some things I eat that are homemade and (I think) healthy

1) Egg rolls

Homemade, and filled with boneless, skinless chicken breast, napa cabbage, carrot, ginger, green onion, bean sprouts or mung beans. A homemade egg roll absolutely stomps all over a pre-made egg rolls one usually is served at at the run of the mill "chinese restaurant" (ground pork makes a killer filling too) All of these ingredients are readily available at ANY supermarket.

2) Turkey pot pie.

When I find a decent deal on a whole turkey, which is anywhere from a low of 40 cents/lb up to, say, $1.20 (for a Butterball perhaps) I'll buy it and roast it. Then I'll strip it of all of it's meat. Other whole food ingredients include frozen or fresh peas, carrots, sweet onions, and some optional ingredients like corn and celery. If you use skim milk and Olivio margarine and lowfat chicken broth to make the non-solid portion of the pie, it is actually a very healthy meal option. Sometimes I buy a Pillsbury pie crust, and other times I make one myself.

Everyone who's had this pie has raved about it, asked for the recipe, and couldn't believe something that healthy could taste so sinful. It's real "comfort" food.

3) Stir-Fry

Make a wonderful rice, like a thai or basmati. Cook it right. There are 1000 ways to
f*&k up rice. Then take a Wok or whatever pan you have and stir fry some napa cabbage, bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms, green onion, sweet onion, ginger, pea pods, mung beans or any sprouts, etc, etc.

All of the above ingredients are simply suggestions. Take your pick. A stir fry using the abovementioned ingredients will be great. It'll be better yet maybe if you add some marinated beef, chicken, shrimp, or whatever protein you prefer.

This is some h-e-a-l-t-h-y eating, my friends, and it is tastebud heaven

4)Regular sandwiches (generally best @lunch)

Buy some lowfat turkey breast or ham and some excellent bread and make some great sandwiches.............why not? Add your favorite condiment(s), lettuce, tomato, and try to not use any cheeses or mayo. If the bread is toasted right and all the ingredients are put together, it'll be awesome. Maybe have some baked Lays chips or pretzels on the side if need be.

5) Any salad not dowsed in heavy oils and bad things.

6) For breakfast, I toast my own homemade bread and accompany it with scrambled eggs. Usually 3 eggs and a slice of toast. On non-egg days, a bowl of oatmeal of your favorite type will substitute well and will be very healthy.

Those are just a few ideas off the cuff.

Homemade soup, chili, stews... don't have to be loaded with carbs (this diabetic knows). Pumpernickel for sammies! I'm addicted to sammies. Good luck!

I need to be more inventive about making soups. I already make a mean chicken soup from the carcass of a rotisserie chicken. I'm thinking of making my nana's veggie soup, just need to get a beef bone somewhere.

same here bro, even in louisiana, anything "healthy" doesn't seem sufficient, and since i'm in college i really don't have time or the steady schedule to wip up amazing stews, soups, etc., so to be fairly "healthy" i try and eat burritos with regular beans, and coffee helps to curve it a lot too.

come to think of it, I haven't eaten any Taco Bell food in years. I haven't felt the need to "head for the border."

Making some spaghetti sauce from scratch thanks to this thread. It doesn't have to go on noodles. Try baked squash

It is a fact that it's easier to eat better in the summer. Thank goodness I live in Texas. That gives me ten months of eating decently.

Amazing that people are shocked that it's not 100% beef. It's like those hamburgers I used to get at the school cafeteria 26 years ago. I knew back then as a stupid teenager that they were not 100% pure beef.
