Should I sell my 1964 Vibroverb to GC

I just obtained a 1964 Vibroverb and took it to GC for an appraisal and they offered me 2500. I paid less then this and would make some money but I'm thinking if they're offering me 2500, I should be to sell it privately for a bit more.

Any advice?

You might be able to sell it privately for a bit more, but how long will it take? If they pay you $2500, and it's more than you have invested, you have profit now.

ebay is offering free listings for the nest week or so. no charge for listing an item you pay only if it sells. and of course try the Amps emporium here. no fee at all except for membership

Look for a mom and pop that will buy it. GC should not have such gear...

Honestly, that's a decent GC buy price offer. If you need the cash, you won't be crying with $2500 for that Vibroverb.

http://www.ampwares.com/amp.asp?id=131

According to that in the last few months the average on eBay has been $2850. So factor in ebay and paypal fees, shipping, hassle with insurance and flakers and etc etc and it may be worth taking a bit of a hit to just sell it now to GC, or at least toss it out locally on craigslist for a week to spot any takers.

Ebay= 10% of your money
Paypal= another 3%....4% if you don't have a premier account.

That's a whole lot more money you gotta ask to break even- not to mention you sell it to some clown that claims it never got there or it was broken and steals parts from it....or just tries to get you down on price thru a Paypal dispute. I've seen it all. Stay away from Ebay on a piece like this if you can.

My 2 cents.

On the other hand- you can list it- you'll get FREE worldwide exposure, until it sells.

That's a very fair price for that amp actually. I can't see you getting much more as slow as the gear market is unless it is in collector's condition.

Is this a vintage Vibroverb or one of the reissues? And if vintage how original is it?

You can get a lot more than $2500 for a nice Vibroverb. Get some good pics and post it here, it won't cost you anything to try and they'll still take it later if no one else will.

Just as a general principle, never sell an amp to the party that estimates its worth - especially if that party is a retailer.

To give an indication of the current market value of a real '64 Vibroverb:
http://www.ampwares.com/amp.asp?id=131

So according to Ampwares, GC's offer is about $1000 south of market value, not counting the downward effect of the economy. No wonder they're interested.

Remember to shop for a buyer.
