Tone Cap to back of pot or Vol lug?

I am going to completely gut and install new pickups and pots in my Ibanez Iceman. I have seen 2 ways to wire the tone cap and was looking to see if one way is better than the other.

1) Cap goes from middle lug on tone pot to back of same pot. (Seymour Duncan schematic)

2) Cap goes from middle lug on tone pot to first lug on volume pot. (Guitar Electronics.com schematic)

Thanks

They say either way works fine. Personally my favorite tone wiring is cap to middle lug of the volume pot, then the other end of the cap to the right lug of the tone pot. And then both of the remaining lugs of the tone pot are grounded to the back of the same tone pot.

All that matters is which lug of the volume pot gets the cap, whether directly or via jumper wire.

Put it to the clockwise lug (with the pickup) for "normal" volume and tone operation.

Put the tone circuit to the center lug and you get "50s wiring", which makes the two pots interactive, with one acting different depending on where the other one is set.

As Walter notes, where the cap is connected to ground does not make any functional difference.

My recommendation would be to connect it to the ground lug of the volume pot. Soldering to pot cases can be a real pain - some need to be sanded to remove a protective film; they all require some serious wattage, as all that metal quickly dissipates heat often leading to cold solder joints; and if you are not careful too much heat can cook the interior components.

If pot manufacturers intended the cases to be used as connection points they'd put a lug on them.

I think that's great idea!
