Mackie TH15 Hiss

I bought 2 Mackie TH15's last night. Once they were set up in the practice spot and turned on we noticed a hiss at the end of "phrasings". Not sure what it is. It was from mics and an iPod. Once the volume got to a really low level there was a hiss that came up. Anyone got any thoughts?

Don't buy cheap speakers next time. I don't know what your intended use for those will be but if you are playing in a loud band they will not cut it. The Specs suck.
Mackie Thump TH-15A Active Speaker Specifications:
  • Acoustic Performance
  • Frequency Range (-10 dB): 40Hz-20kHz
  • Frequency Response (-3 dB): 50Hz-18.5kHz
  • Horizontal Coverage Angle: 90°
  • Vertical Coverage Angle: 60°
  • Maximum SPL Long-Term: 113dB SPL @ 1m
  • Maximum SPL Peak: 116dB SPL @ 1m

Return them if you can and get something better.

The sensitivity is really high.
Not sure if that is normal for PA speakers but I don't think so.
That means they are going to be real sensitive to small signals likes (esses).

What kind of amps are you running into those and what mixing board are you using?

Edit I see these are self powered speakers.

I think discrete amps and speakers are the way to go.
