65 Vibrolux

this worth $2K plus tax. asking price is $2299. I got him down to $2k even

found another VL reverb. tolex and grill is an 8.5 out of 10 minor wear one small run in the grill about 1 inch. insides appear original with some normal minor repairs. cord is new 3 prong. original speakers and FS are gone

all controls work smooth, no noises pops etc. tone is awesome.

has 2-10 Eminence Legends. they sound nice but I still think $2k is too much for this as it.
seller is firm and had it for months which makes me wonder why its still there.

Iwent back last night and offered $1800 and he showed me the door

2k seems a little high to me, not crazy, but...especially w/ replacement speakers it's a bit over what I would pay. I've seen two good ones in stores recently for 2K and they were very original. Saw a '65 Twin last week for $1500, all original except the grill cloth which was aged Mojotone and looked great.

I payed 2500 flat for a mint 1965/66 VR with everything completely original with the gold back jensens. It also had the original footswitch and original paperwork. Only thing missing was the dust cover. This was a couple of years ago before the big economic meltdown.

The Fender Field Guide has accurate pricing on vintage Blackface amps. Go to the field guide, and look at the sales information on the bottom of the page

http://www.ampwares.com/amp.asp?id=126

Based on the posted information, based on eBay sales, $2K is a reasonable price.

Buy a Carr Rambler used and you'll have a better DR for less money anyway.

But does that factor in non-original speakers? (honestly just asking as I'm not sure)

A friend of mine recently bought a '65 for approx $1900 with non-original speakers and grill cloth.

I can't blame the OP for not wanting to get ripped off. It's easy to say just go for it, but experience tells me that people get really finicky when buying non-original Fender amps. So it's important to know exactly what you're getting into and consider what effect it might have on a resale.

yeah I looked on that amp site but thats ebay pricing.
i wouldnt fork over this kinda $$$ on ebay.
theres all kinds of gimincks on there where freinds go on and bid the item up for the seller or what not. or if its a slow week it will sellfor less.
so those prices to me arent nec true

imo you can get better deals with private sellers locally and worse case for the $2 k from the store I can have my tech check it out and have time to return it. with ebau your stuck no matter what

these amps arent all that rare so i can be selective with wht i buy and for pricing too

It factors in common maintenance changes such cap jobs, and replacing resistors, speakers, and wires/cords.

If they were more rare I'd say buy it anyway but they are pretty common. Save more money and find a silverface. The early ones sound just as good and are much less than the blackface. However, these amps are keepers so buy the one you want. If it costs a little more than you think it should, so be it. I doubt you'll sell it. VR Reverbs are my fave Fender. You can play any style thru them, well most!

I agree with the silverface thing. They sound just as good for less moolah.. However if you're buying it for an investment I'd say the $2000 without original speakers isn't a good buy I'd say $1650-1800 is more than fair depending on shape.

yeah like I said in my past threads im def open to a SF. ive seen plenty for under a grand. def more do-able

im buying to play not invest so a few dingys or rips wont bother me at all.

I was too stupid to buy a BF back in the day when they can be had for $300 or so now im just going to be very very selective. I'll find the right one, one day for the $$$ want to spend.

It wasn't just $200 you were asking for an additional $200 over the $300 he had already dropped.

I would have shown you the door too.

Aren't you the same guy that refused to buy a pedal because the guy wouldn't go down another $10? I'm seeing a pattern here...guy refuses your lowball price and then you complain about it on TGP.

Good luck with that as a buying strategy.
