Broken a bone ?

When I was 19. Rolled a VW bug and was ejected out the sunroof. Miracle I wasn't killed as I landed on the asphalt. Broke my right femur against the steering wheel on the way through the roof. Took a long time to heal. How bout you?

I broke my right femur three years ago when I was 51. Freak accident. They put a titanium rod in it, I was in the hospital for 4 days and was walking (without crutches or cane) in 5 weeks. Hurt like you wouldn't believe (well, the OP would), but I don't even notice it now unless it's really cold outside. Modern orthopedic surgery is amazing. 20 years ago, I would have been in traction for 3 months...

Not as dramatic. During a big renovation in 2004, just before the contractors were to start drywalling, I realized I hadn't arranged for cable and CAT 5, phone, etc wiring. Went out and bought a spool of Quad RG-6 and another of CAT 5. I had access in just the right places to run the cables. My contractor said I could use his drills, but warned me not to break my wrist if it caught.

I was nearly done when I was standing on a ladder drilling in the sill between a new storeroom and the old utility room. What I didn't know was that there was a half-height old board on the other side, and when the paddle drill went through, it caught, and twisted my hand.

I spent from midnight when my spouse came home to 3am in the emergency room, where they discovered I had a compound fracture. I had a great surgeon who put plates and screws in, and I didn't need any physical therapy.

The crew had a new name for me the next day: gimp.

When I was young my brother taught me to ski and took me to a few places in Manitoba. Then we moved to Calgary and I learned to ski mountains. Norquay,Lake Louise, Fortress, Sunshine, all over Banff actually, I even went helicopter skiing with my brother in the Bugaboos once. Never more than a face wash and landing on my butt.

We move to Saskatchewan and I get an invite to go skiing. In the middle of the prairies, down hill skiing so I have to see this. I go and it's a ditch. No kidding it's a gully called Qu'Appelle. I ride to the top of this gully on the toe rope, no chair or anything, just a rope you hold on to which pulls you up. First run, all ice slightly covered with frozen man made snow.

I broke my thumb.

Now I am sure that there are those who figure that down hill skiing on the prairies is not all that bad, and better than nothing. I disagree.

Compound fracture of my patella with a complete tear of my patellar tendon last May. Also lost 20% of my kneecap. Very interesting looking inside your knee joint with your kneecap sticking up in the air. All this while in Thailand! Surgery and 8 days in the hospital. Good fun! Luckily the healthcare is very good and very inexpensive there. Besides that only a few toes and a finger once.
