What's your action height?
Just curious, because of the thread on setting up a guitar before sale.
Measuring the little e at the twelfth, my Epi Riviera running 10s is about 4/64, maybe a tad higher, so is my Gibson Blueshawk. Those are both running Snake Oil 10s, at present. My Xaviere 600 is a bit higher, as I need to do a bit of fret work. The Riviera could do with a little more fallaway above the 12th, I get a bit of buzz up there. I bend a lot, and I like for my fingertips to get a good grip on the string for the bend. I play cleans or pretty close to it, so buzz or rattle is more noticeable than if I ran a lot of distortion. What yours like, and why?

SO OK, I'm an old (65) hippy what got into hi-tec. When I measure string height, I capo at the first fret.
That said, depending on the guitar, anywhere from 1/16" to 5/64" at the 17th fret with a few thousandth's relief measured at the 7th fret (varies by guitar and season). If I can't get a guitar to play withing that range, it's time for a fret leveling I also reduce the fractions

1/16" for each string (or just the low and high E if that's all I can adjust) at the last fret with a touch of relief. I find the relief to be a very important factor in my ease of playing. If I have 2 guitars with the same action, but one has more neck curvature, that one will be more of a fight to play. Anyway, 1/16" is pretty much the lowest action I can use that will still sound good with my playing style.

I dont measure the height I use as it varies from guitar to guitar. I generally prefer higher action than most as it allows for the strings to vibrate to thier fullest and produces a better tone. I can't stand fret buzz, and I also bend alot and like to "dig in" when I play and higher action goes well with that.

honestly, i have no idea. as low as i can get it without buzzing, plus a tad higher for better sustain.
i think that's gonna be a common answer.

I prefer my action high. I find it gives strings more room to vibrate and adds a little more air to my tone. YMMV. =)

Fretted at first string, measured from bottom of string at 12th fret:
65-70 thousandths or so Treble E 100-110 thousandths or so Low E? Probably there abouts. This to me is pretty low action. I do use perhaps a bit less relief in the neck than most people but don't have a measurement on that. Both my guitars are refretted to Jescar narrow tall (basically a 6105), 12" straight radius, and a PLEK. Yeah.

I bet my archtop runs 1/4" at the end of the neck.
 You can bang the hell out of it with 13s and no buzz to be found. :lol: My electrics tend to run a little lower, but probably higher than most. EG

I guess mine are set to medium. I play strats for the most part with 7.25 radius. I have one strat that is 9-12 inch radius, but I prefer the vintage board. Just use to it I guess...
7/64s on the low e, and about 6/64s on the high e.

I like it med-high. Don't measure it. I find even when not buzzing, low action kills some tone. It chops off low end and sustain. Even on Plek'd guitars with as close to perfect, setups. I like it higher, but then intonation can suffer. It's a balancing act.
