Egnater 2X12 with Rebel 30

So I had a Rebel 20 with 1X12 Rebel cab and I decided I wanted a little extra volume so I upgraded to a Rebel 30 with 2X12 cab. The Rebel 30 seemed to sound fine in the store but at practice today the amp just didn't sound as good as the Rebel 20 with the 1X12. I am thinking that alot of it is the cab. There is alot of high end attack. I pushed the bass a little bit but then it got real mushy sounding (I am not great at describing tone). Basically the bass sounds good dialed in at around 1 and higher than that it doesn't sound great but the treble is really really out there. I made sure the bright switch was off and I have the treble down at around 11.

The speakers are the same in both the 1X12 and 2X12 but I think the 1X12 might be ported (if that means anything). Should I open up the closed back on the cabinet? Is this just because the speakers need to be broken in? Should I put new preamp tubes in?

I hate to replace speakers on a new cab especially when those speakers sounded so great in the 1X12.

Thanks!

Sounds strange to me - could be a cab or tube issue.
I had both a R20 and R30 for about 6 months till I sold the R20.
A/B'ed em both thru the same cab many times & gigged with em both.

In terms of EQ's (treble, bass) both amps are almost identical.
I run the R30's treble at around 2 oclock on both channels and its still very warm.
Otherwise the R30 sounds a lot better thru the whole range imo.
The R20 is the best value for money low watt amp available imo but the R30 is just much better again.

Oh - and I receommend you replace the Fuse in the R30 with a larger capacity one.
My amp tech with 40yrs amp building experience reckons it's underpowered for the amp and will likely cause blown tubes.
Will take you 30 secs to do

That's why I was wondering if it was speaker break in time or perhaps the cabinet design yields different results than the 1X12. I am not opposed to swapping some tubes though. Maybe I can take my 30 to the local Guitar Center and play it through the 1X12 and see if I hear a difference.

Is it possible that the two high powered speakers in the 2X12 is just too much clean power for the amp to sound warm? The speaker cab can be run in stereo. Maybe it would be a worthwhile experiment to run the head through one of the single stereo inputs to see what it sounds like with just one of the speakers? I mean the cab IS meant for the Tourmaster head which is VERY high powered.
