Ever Google your band?
(Hmm, that sounds kinda dirty...).
So our organist Googled the band the other day and bumped into a newspaper article from last summer about us playing an on-air show on a local radio station and an in-store performance for hawking our CD. The funny thing is that we will be playing another in-store in the same place this Saturday and will be playing a one hour set on the local jazz radio station on April 8...he was just looking to see if the store was advertising us (they are) and it was "deja vu all over again". Pretty hilarious, we thought. Here's the article: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/miami...-saturday.html DS

From old time to punk rock, 36 CAROLINA MUSICIANS LIVING LEGENDS 1 James Taylor: Folk Rock/R&B/Country, Chapel Hill. Born in Boston in 1948, Taylor grew up in Chapel Hill, N.C. Meeting fellow guitarist and songwriter Danny “Kootch” Kortchmar, shaped much of his professional life. Taylor became a pre-eminent singer-songwriter of the 70s, with notable songs such as “Carolina In My Mind.” Taylor recorded the classic “Sweet Baby James” with guitarist Kortchmar and Carole King on piano. Taylor has worked creatively with such artists as Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, and Crosby, Stills and Nash. His music has won multiple Grammys and his combined albums have sold 30 million copies. Taylor was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March 2000. Visit www.jamestaylor.com. 2 Shirley Caesar: Gospel, Raleigh. Shirley Caesar has recently released her 41st album, “I Know The Truth,” on her new record label Shu-Bel Records—no surprise considering that she is an 11-time Grammy Award-winning artist, born and raised in N.C. Her professional career began when, at 18, she approached Albertina Walker about joining the musical group The Caravans. She performed with The Caravans from 1958 until 1966, when she pursued a solo career and began making a name for herself in the gospel music circuit. Rightfully known as the “First Lady of Gospel Music,” Shirley Caesar is a living legend and icon to many up and coming Gospel singers. Visit www.shirleycaesar.com. 3 Joe Robinson: Jazz, Winston-Salem. Who knew that finding a bugle in the woods at a very early age would be a life-changing moment? Nearly 40 years after getting his first Victory trumpet, Joe Robinson is now recognized as a musical pioneer, striving to keep jazz alive and well. A life-long resident of Winston-Salem, Joe has released several CDs, which showcase his versatility and distinct style. Robinson’s influences include Miles Davis and Chet Baker mixed with funk, blues and reggae, all enveloped by jazz standards. Visit ww.joerobinson.net. 4 Ben Folds: Alternative Rock, Winston-Salem. Born in Winston-Salem, singer-songwriter and former front man of Ben Folds Five, Folds is widely acclaimed for his prowess as a pianist, composer, songwriter and performer. Last October, Folds released “supersunnyspeedgraphic, the lp,” a collection of original songs culled from his series of EP releases, b-sides, covers and film-soundtrack appearances. Last year, Folds released his first live DVD, “Ben Folds Live at My Space,” which documents the singer’s 2006 live webcast on MySpace.com. Currently, the musical heavyweight heads back to school this spring with another round of headlining dates on college campuses. Visit www.benfolds.com. (skip down 26 places to...)..... 30 Generic Hustle: Funk, Greensboro. Five guys, a lot of skill, strong musical backgrounds and many years of combined experience all fuse together to form the uniquely funky brass jam band Generic Hustle. Brad Haywood, a teacher hailing from High Point, plays the trumpet and flute, Brain Thacker is on the trombone, Brett Beardsley serves as the band’s drummer, Brooks Kaplan plays guitar and vocals and Kolton Wades’ heavy metal influence is truly apparent on the bass and sousaphone. Paired with an impressive live show, after years of much anticipation, Generic Hustle has released their collective CD featuring a mostly instrumental mix of jazz, funk, ska and metal. April 10 (2008) 10pm @ The Blind Tiger, Greensboro. Visit www.generichustle.com and www.myspace.com/generichustle.
