Ohio flooding

Major storms are causing flooding here. Was up all night watching. Went at 630 to help get my nieces and nephews out with a boat. Things are starting to go down here now but the closest town that all this drains into will be decimated tonight as the river rises there. Had a major one in 07 killed the downtown there.

Anyone else in Ohio dealing with this?

Is it caused by storms/rain or also rising rivers? How widespread is it?

Stay safe.

The Chagrin River dam down the street from me (Gates Mills) is failing and the water level is rising. But the way the river runs, it will not affect my neighborhood. Plus we live at a much higher elevation.

The power was on and off a few times last night and the creek is up. But no flooding here in Columbus.
Hope it recedes quickly there.

I'm in Midwest Ohio. I hit high water this morning on my way to work, and couldn't slow down in time. I hydroplaned into the ditch. My car is now full of water. Luckily, the trunk is sticking out of the water, so I'm hoping my amp and gig cases didn't get damaged.
A passing motorist who was smarter than me stopped and picked me up, and gave me a ride in to work. I had to meet the tow truck driver to give him my key, and MOST of the roads in that area are now closed due to high water. It's a real mess.
I snapped a pic with my cell phone, but I don't have an online photo account so I can't post it here.

Wow, that sucks !! I did the same thing, hit a 20 yard stretch of water in the dark and was totally amazed that the car didn't loop out or die

Good luck with your car and stuff.

That's awful, hope y'all be ok.

We had some floodings here in San Antonio but not recently. One of the last floodings we had though was pretty much unexpected that we did a lot of major flood control work like widening and deepening a six mile creek here where I live in the southside. The flooding was so bad that the creek overflowed all the way to the houses along the creek, you can see the waterline on the walls. That had to be a hell lot of water to go up the back yards which is sloped upward all the way to the houses.

Listening to the rain on the roof last night and the sound of the avalanche of snow sliding off...I knew what was coming. Sure enough, we woke up this morning to a wet basement. Trivial compared to some of the flooding, but a huge pain in the ass nonetheless when you've got a finished basement where the carpet and padding now have the consistency of a wet sponge. Good times. If its not the snow, its the rain. Or its the rain and the snow.

I've never heard it rain so long...so hard in my life!
....and the wind.

Level 3 Emergency.

Just hoping the sump pump doesn't give out.

Mojo sent. I've been thru that a few times, enough to no longer justify carpet in the basement...too much of a pain in that ass. Painted concrete with area rugs now.

Some of you may find this interesting/useful:

http://waterwatch.usgs.gov/new/?m=flood&r=oh&w=map

You can track the rise and fall of the rivers in the state in near realtime. Hope everyone stays safe and dry!
