What about

the Cappy? I love the slapback I get out of my El Capistan. I used to own an EP-3. Not "it" but close enough for me w/ zero maintenance issues. YMMV.....

I can share what I would NOT use for slap-back, and that's the Akai Headrush. It's a very talented pedal, but the slapback was YAWN. It did sit on my board next to an Aqua Puss, though.

I want to re-suggest the TC Flashback, actually. I have been groovin' some slappy from the Ping-Pong mode on the FB. Slap mode has a decay that doesn't groove with me as much.

DM-2 or aqua puss RI. the Dm-2 sounds better at longer delay times, but the AP has a boingy-er (i make up words. so what?) slap. between the two, i'd take a Dm-2, but if i really ONLY wanted short slapback with one or two repeats i'd go APri.

IMO if you're using an analog delay for slapback, you need to be using a pedal that caps out at 300mS or so - anything longer than that and the first repeat starts to feel 'late' and lose the 'bounce' that you play off of. I've directly compared 300mS to 600mS versions of pedals from the same maker and there are very noticable differences in feel from one to the other when set for the shorter times. This held true across a variety of makers too.

It's less of a problem if you go digital, but most digitals unless they have some sort of tone control on them or are specifically 'analog voiced' just don't sound very good to me for slapback stuff. They typically feel pretty stiff to me.

That's why I love the AR20DL - it is kind of a cross between a DM-2 and a DM-3, so it has the warmth of the DM-2 but the cut and clarity of the DM-3.

The SAD-1 is also an incredible sounding delay - a little more character happening in terms of a grainier sound than the AR20DL but it still has a great attack to it.

My DM-3 does some amazing slapback. But I think everybody knows about the DM-2 and DM-3. They're popular for a reason.
