Eventide ModFactor?? Please tell me about it.

I have a chance to buy a Modfactor in mint condition for a really good price($250ish). I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while, but I'm not a huge modulation user, but i think that if i got the pedal i would use modulation more.

So what do you guys think about this pedal?

If you're looking for a jack-of-all-trades modulation pedal, it definitely fits the bill.

I've played: Phasers that sounded better, chorus pedals that were more lush, rotary simulators that were as good, vibes that were more fluid and flangers that were more jet-like. However, nothing has come close when it comes to all of the above and I only need one dedicated Mod pedal on my board.

I totally agree with Captain Awesome. Certain individual stompboxes are a little bit better but since I didn't use modulation all that much so it was hard to justify a lot of space and money to individual chorus, phaser, flange, trem, Ring etc... I think on the whole the effects on the Modfactor are great and for what you get in what package you just can't beat the Modfactor for bang for the buck -- Plus all the effects are super super tweakable. It's a great little noisemaker. For $250 I'd say pick it up for sure -- even if you only like a couple of the effects (which you will for sure) it'll be worth it.

I just bought one. I've found some really cool sounds that I've been using that I wouldn't have otherwise. That said, be prepared to spend some time in the manual, it's not as easy as the timefactor. You have to program waveshapes, etc to each sound. Good, bad? You decide. There's a LOT of tweaking involved. But with alot of tweaking there's a very wide array of sounds you can get. Within 15 minutes I had a Leslie sound 95% as good as my old tube rotosphere I sold to buy the modfactor. I think after I spend more time Learning the pedal I'll get it even better.

Undulator is a very unique effect, which is a Eventide original, and what a brilliant effect it is. That effect is almost worth the pedal on it's own, IMO.

I don't like the phaser or the q-wah, but the rest is good and very usefull.

Totally agree with everything above. Would add that the flangers are very good and the rotary is so strong that I'm having a hard time rationalizing buying a dedicated pedal for that- not that GAS has anything to do with rational...

Hey guys! Thanks for the input!

I'm not a big modulation user, so a "do it all" pedal will be fine with me. I really don't have any single modulation pedals, so I wouldn't be losing anything(unused pedals) by buying the Modfactor. I'm a big tone freak, but even if the effects aren't as good as individual pedals, the Modfactor still will sound great, right?

It sounds better than many, and doesn't touch the tone IMO. you can always sell it for what you bought it.

I think the rotary and tremelo effects are excellent. The ability to have the speed and/or depth respond to the dynamics of your playing really brings these effects to life. The chorus isn't bad (it sounds much better in stereo), but I don't like the phaser much. I have no use for the ring mod or undulator.

For $250, it's a no brainer.

I used the undulator this morning. It can open chords with subtle picking while they're ringing and make them HUGE! It's not a direct replacement for a thick reverb, but it's awesome. Especially for ambient stuff or just needing to fill some space in a busy mix with sustained stuff. I know, I know, keyboard players should do that but some refuse to do anything other than turn it to grand piano and pound away...for the record, I try not to play with those people, but playing in church sometimes you just don't have that option.

I've been using the ModFactor for quite a while. IMO at $250 ish you can't go wrong. Sometimes recording I use the MF, sometimes I use stand alone units, but live I just use the MF and save a ton of pedal board room and nobody can seem to tell the difference, especially live. I've been able to get some very usable phaser sounds, similar to a good phase90. The unit is updateable with software updates, and with each update (about every 18 months or so) the pedal gets better and better. If it's not for you, you should be able to sell it/trade it for what you paid for it.

Do it, it's Leslie, tremolo and undulator are amazing and worth the price alone. Chorus and flange are miles above any of it's competitors too (nova, m9, etc). Also very easy to use and just a great solid unit.

So, for whoever voted no, can you give your reasoning?
