I had a fender bassman 100 and i traded it in on a guitar because I wasn't really happy with it. I only have one bass (5 guitars) and I need a bass amp. I just bought my first house so funds are very limited.
What amps should I look at? What should I avoid?

If it's only for recording/practice, skip the amp and just DI. I use the Tech 21 Leeds pedal, others swear by their various ampeg models, and sometimes even just a compressor into a DI works fine for cleaner sounds.
I have a wee SWR LA10 for practice, and a Markbass/Avatar mini stack for band and live stuff, but with 2 infants in the house, I end up playing direct 90% of the time. YMMV, of course. |

Small Markbass or Phil Jones (used of course!). Tech 21 pedals are pretty darn good too for recording.

Tech 21 has released an updated version of the VT Bass that now has an XLR out on it for direct recording. Aside from that, I concur with the nod towards the MarkBass amp. I have a Little Mark II and for the money, it's the best amp I've ever owned. Granted, it's probably not AS good as a Mesa Carbine M9 but you can get an LM II for less than half and it's not that far off.

I've been through several lil bass amps... and the only one that has stayed at my place for impromptu practice stuff is the Roland Cube Bass 100. I see 'em for sale on the forum over at TalkBass. Markbass makes GREAT stuff -- but, it can get pricey quick.

Yorkville XM200 I have it and love it. Great power, tone and portability. They can still be found. Made in Canada. |

Good tones from the Acoustic B-200 1x15 combo. Extension speaker out, and 200W to the internal 15.
