Decision Time/Crunch Time

Its crunch time boys, and I want to make a decision on a amp, as stated in many threads before, I am looking for a AC-30 voiced amp, if it were you choosing which one of these would be on stage with you??

1. Top Hat King Royale

2. Divided by 13 RSA 31

3. Savage Glas 30

After much research and with talking with TGP members and all of the manufacture's it has finally come down to these 3

After years of buying and selling gear I have learned one thing. If you are trying to get an amp that sounds like (insert amp here) why not just buy the one you are trying to sound like.

So if you want an amp that sounds like an AC30 why not just buy an AC30? Maybe you want something more vintage. Just save a bit and get the one you really want.

Not trying to flame... just some food for thought.

I do own a vintage AC-30 (1965)) and I don't want to gig with it anymore, in the last 2 years I have had reliability issues with it, so I will use it maybe for the studio, I haven';t decided yet. This is why I need something reliable for live use.

IMO,
TopHat King Royale, Nothing has come close. It's destroyed the
newer handwired and any vintage Vox that I've put to record
in the past several years. One of the best all around amps
I've ever had. I make my judgments based largely on the tones
and vibe getting to tape and hard disc. The CC series sounds
like a bad 60's AM radio next to it. Definitely in my 5 top amps
of all time. I keep 2 in the studio as I'd never want to be without
one, and quite often more than 1 guitarist wants to be tracking
through it at a given time.

You can't go wrong with any of the three you mentioned.

Thanks guys for your input, I have tried the CC and didn't like, the HW RI sounded great, but didn't sound "very Vox IMHO (at least the ones I tried so far). I know they are all great amps, and unfortunately living in Toronto, there is no where to check the amps out, which is a problem. All builders seem like excellent people that stand behind there product and take the time to discuss any concerns a potential customer might have. But in the end all I want is that sweet El-84 chime!!!

vox-y

I had the exact same dilemma, I have a '65 in panel top boost that I got tired of taking to gigs, bought the /13 ert33 to use instead. I really like my /13, used it for 2 years now (although recently I've been using a komet 60 i picked up). But it doesn't sound like a ac-30 to me really, elements of ac-30 via the el84s but not really ac-30. It sounds like a great amp but the top end and break up are quite different.

Now that shouldn't disuade you, I heartily recommend the /13 as I got used to it and it has worked great for me. On the album I recently recorded my ac-30 kept it's dust cover on while the /13 is on every track. But it's different.

Tha Savage can be voxy but it can also be very marshally as well. Great amp ( I have a 1x12 ), but certainly not a Vox clone. As I said it can get you in the neighborhood

To mention my "tonal amp references" Beatles Revolver, mid to late sixties Stones. Amps that I own so far are 63 BF Super Reverb, 65 Vox AC-30 with Top Boost. My Vox needs a vacation.

Brian Gerhard / TopHat = Best Improvement In Vox Circuits

King Royale and Club Royale are 2 indispensable tools for me
for many years now. The King Royale has taken the place of the AC30 and the Club Royale has taken the AC15's place.

You need to try a King Royale for yourself. The amp must
convince you and I'm sure it will.
