DIY Cable and floating ground for effects loop - cable building Q

I know this is a controversial subject so hopefully I don't open a can of worms. I asked this over at DIY Stompbox but there doesn't seem to be many people there and I'm wanting to build these cables tonight as I only have a few hours to kill for the next couple of days.

I ended up accidentally buying the wrong cable to build my send and return lines to and from my pedal board so I'm in need of a solution since I can't afford to buy more cable right now.

I have 70' of canare cable with a braided shield and twisted pair (microphone cable).

I'd like to make two 20-25' guitar effects loop cables with the least capacitance and best shielding possible using the cable I have.
In other words, I want excellent signal strength, wide bandwidth and low noise...

I am using a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2+ to fuel my pedal-board

The connectors I'm using are Nutrik NP2RX

My questions are:
1 - Will a floating ground help reduce noise?
1B - If so, which braided shield end should I disconnect - The end at the amp or the end at the pedal board?
My assumption is that the braided shield should be disconnected at the pedal-board end since the closest source to ground is the amp, or am I wrong considering my grounded Voodoo Labs power supply?

2 - Would it be better to use both of the twisted pair wires as signal wires and use the braided shield as the ground?
2B - If so, wouldn't this increase capacitance yielding an even darker sound from a 20' cable?

3 - Will these cables be prone to noise if they are stepped on?

Is this a futile experiment?

Thanks,
~J

Never mind.

I just made the bastards with a floating ground and they sound awesome - The shield is attached at the amp end only.
I made two 25' effects loop cables and a 15' guitar cable.

I like the sound of my home-baked 15' canare a lot better than my over-priced 10' Fender Gold...

Let it be known that they will probably be slightly micro-phonic. I didn't notice any sound from stepping on it or near it but I got a tiny ticking noise coming out of the speaker by flicking the cable near the input of the amp which was not present when I flick tested my pre-built cables near the input.

Your mileage may vary.
Just know that it works fine in a pinch (low noise, wide band-width, crunchy, grindy, chewy, delicious... slightly micro-phonic)

Compared to my Fender gold the top end of the Canare seems less shrill, the definition is better and the mids are richer. The Fender is a bit mid-scooped and more...fizzy with a little bit less definition/crunch in the sound so it sounds a bit more fizzy and granular vs crunchy/grindy... That's what I noticed anyway, I'm not ruling out placebo. I measured the capacitance of both cables and they were nearly identical so Fender uses a higher capacitance per foot cable than the canare I used.
