My Satch cover

I recently picked up a "Jam with Joe Satriani" book, which comes with a cd of backing tracks for a few of his songs.
I ATTEMPTED to do a live cover of Surfing With the Alien.

Overall, not bad, better than I could do trying to cop Surfing w/Alien. Opening rhythm sounded a little off to the track but then the lead line came in and sounded great. Just a few bad notes and timing things here and there. A little more woodshed and you got it. Again, considering it is basically a 4 minute solo with a zillion notes and you are attempting to play it exactly like the studio version, very good start. Sometimes sounds like you are hanging on for dear life. I play some studio version solos the same way, just barely hanging on.

You are pushing yourself, and wether you ever nail it perfect is not important, I'm confident you can take what you are learning and apply it elsewhere in your playing.

Peavey JSX Ultra Channel into

Ibanez JS1000 with Evolution bride p/u
(I'm not obsessed with Joe, I bought the JSX becuase, for the money, i felt it was the best choice of amp. THe JS1000 i bought because i got it for a good price, and i wanted one because i went to a satch concert with premium tickets. I got Joe to sign the guitar and the chrome piece for my amp, and i also chatted with him for a few minutes.)
I totally dig Joe's music and tone, but I'm definatly not trying to copy him.
keep in mind the fact that im only 14 so I'm still trying to find my own style and tone(which my sights are now set on: a PRS custom 22 with a Two Rock Custom Reverb Signature, however at the price of that gear, its a little out of reach right now. lol)

And about pushing myself, I most definatly am. My chops are pretty bad and they're far from the level they need to be to really pull that stuff off correctly. But ive got to start somewhere, and the more i practice, the better i get.
one of the main reasons i did the song is becuase it is hard, so i could use it as a refrence point to see how my playing improves.

I used an Aiken Invader Mark 1. But I can't remember now if I supplemented the overdrive with my Fulltone pedal or not.

Not completely happy with them. I'm going to re-record them later this year and add more songs....
