Good pedalboard builders on the East Coast (Wilco-board is finally done!)
Hey guys,
You may remember I started a thread a few months ago looking for advice on building a Wilco-inspired pedalboard that could cover all era's of the band. Well, after months of searching, trying, and retrying, I finally have all of my pieces. The rig will be as follows: Guitars: Gibson SG Standard (w/ bigsby) Epiphone Elitist Casino Rickenbacker 620 Martin OM-21 Special Amps: Vox AC30 H2 or (hopefully /13 RSA 31 single-channel) /13 212F (Alnico Blue speakers) Pedalboard: Boss TU-2 EHX POG2 ZVex Fuzz Factory Crowther Prunes and Custard Prescription Electronics RX Overdrive Boss VB-2 MXR Phase 90 1974 Reissue (Analogman-modded for true bypass) Xotic RC Booster Goodrich L120 Volume Pedal Catalinbread Semaphore Tremolo Diamond Memory Lane 2 (with expression pedals for time and feedback) The board is a Blackbird Standard 28x15 I am really proud of the way in which all of this came together. I can actually nail 95% of all Wilco sounds. However, there is a bit of tone suck when everything is plugged in together. Is there a reputable pedalboard builder on the east coast? Something equivalent to LASD? I'm in NYC. ...yes, I play in a Wilco cover band. |

Sounds like a great setup!
While I didn't set out to put together a Wilco board like you did, my new board is turning out to have several pieces in common with Cline's and Tweedy's, so I'm definitely looking forward to playing some Wilco tunes with it. Do you have any clips of your band? I'd be interested in hearing it as it's the first Wilco cover band that I've heard of. |

Sorry, I don't have clips. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of demand for a Wilco cover band, so its mainly just me and 4 other guys jamming in a rehearsal space and playing (really) small shows. While I can swing the price of pedals that I use everyday, I can't justify the price of recording a demo or buying home recording equipment that would do the rig justice. I'm 25, unwed, and debt free, so my meager income in disposable, there just isn't a whole awful lot to dispose of! However, this board does inspire me -- in much the same way as Tweedy and Co. do -- to write and be creative with my original music, so the expense is justified IMO. What's on your board, may I ask? |

If you have more room on top add a Radial Tonebone loopbone, you could arrange the two loops for easier switching, it has a great buffer, and impedance adjustment so it would get rid of the suck. If you don't have anymore room on top buy a good buffer and mount it underneath, then maybe upgrade cables if they are not really of good quality. I don't think you need to send it anywhere unless your going to do something drastic.

You've got several buffers on your board already - maybe it's the cabling..?
