Sources of Noise for Your Rig?

I typically experience what I consider to be an average level of noise with my rig. I'm usually careful to stay away from fans, fluorescent lighting and other noise/60hz sources.

But recently, I played an outdoor festival where, due to location, everything was powered via portable electric generator. I've never heard my rig sound so pristine. No noise, even with my bridge pickup, both drives kicked on at max gain, and amp volume at 7.

My chain for that gig went like this: single coil Tele -> A51 wah (no buff) -> Keeley-spec GGG TS clone -> Keeley-spec SD-1 (except didn't replace all the resistors with metal-comp) -> EHX Ring Thing -> Tuner -> Ibanez DE7 -> Boss DD6 -> Nova Repeater -> Fender Princeton. I power everything via One-Spot daisy, except for the Repeater which has its own PSU.

Is it really possible that THAT much of the noise I typically hear is caused by power and grounding issues? If so does anyone have any insight as to the exact reasons that this happens? Is it just bad grounding or are there other factors? I am moving to a new house this weekend and I'd like see if there's any improvements that could be made to the electrical wiring in order to reduce noise issues for my rig and project studio equipment. I know someone here must have an idea... Stinkfoot???

I'd assume the lack of noise with a generator has to do with the power conditioning/filters needed to run a band off a generator. Yes, I think a lot of home/venue power is dirty.

I'd get myself a voltage line filter if they weren't that pricey.

Lol... how much is "pricey?" What size are they typically?

I guess I'd much rather spend money on something that I'm fairly certain will resolve all my noise issues most effectively rather than trying a regulated PS that I don't know will work for sure...

Take a look at the Furman products.

Obviously the less expensive models will have less features and capabilities. I don't know much about what units are good for a given rig, but some guys won't run thier rigs without them.

Pricey?? Ya, some over 2 grand. But those would probably be overkill for a guitar rig.
