Woke up to a tree on my house.

Had some pretty bad storms down here last night. My wife woke me up about 1:00AM asking me, "What was that?!?". I'm not even sure if I heard it. We checked on our son first and then went and scoped out the rest of the house. As we were walking through the dining room I hit my head on a tree branch that was sticking through the ceiling! At first I thought it was just a limb, but after turning the outside light on I saw a big tree on our house. A guy across the street had a tree on his truck and a crew was cleaning it off so after they finished they came and got the tree off our house. Pretty crazy night! Anyways, I just thankful no one was hurt and the damage wasn't worse. Now we just got to get the insurance people out here.

The uprooted tree:

On the house (our room is to the right of the tree):

Our new skylight (after the limb was removed):

Oh no!

Love big trees too, but they can do some nasty damage - as shown in your photos!

Hope you can get this fixed up quickly. Advice: Don't replace the tree. Plant a bush!

Scary bump in the night! Lemons into Lemonade? Is it a good place for a skylight?

Ha! I wish. It's right above our refrigerator.

Glad to see no one was hurt. I love large trees but they can cause probs.

We had a large oak blow over in a storm here the other night. fortunately it got caught by an equally large pine before crashing into the house. The guys came out yesterday and removed it. The guy in the tree is 60+ years old and really knows his biz.

Man I feel for you. In '09 I had a neighbors tree fall on my house and it was $35 grand before it was through.

Check it out here.

They brought in a 50 ton crane and an industrial strength chipper to clean it all up, it took about 8 hours. Then two months to rebuild the house.

Sounds like he's a real diehard.
He must be the owner of the business, cuz if he was one of my climbers he would have 2 hands on the saw at all times when he cuts and detach the saw from the climbing belt.
Maybe the next time he gets cut it will teach him a lesson.

I lived in an area that that was common(trees into homes), and it always unnerved me. Thank God you're OK, and I hope things works out with the fix. Total drag!

Great point. If that thing kicks out, it could really nail him. Or, if it got hung up, and he needed to rapidly decent or evade....ouch.
