Was that Phil X filling in for Mr Sambora last night?

Looks like Phil X might be the new temp guitar player filling in with Bon Jovi while Sambora is in rehab. He showed up on stage at the Jazz Fest in Nawlins Loozeeanna Saturday night waving what looks like a Yamaha SG for at least some of the songs.

The black Yamaha looks like an SG1820 and the goldtop an SG1802.

Dang, slow on the trigger again!

I guess the 1820 is a basic SG1000 series (no neck-through construction) with bog-stock off-the-shelf LP type hardware?

Yeah, pretty much. It's a set neck, with Duncan '59s and a Tone Pros Tune-o-matic instead of the custom Yamaha bridge and tailpiece. The top carve is also different (steeper, if that makes sense), and there's no tummy cut. Rosewood fingerboards and the jack is mounted on the side instead of the top.

The SG1802 is the same as far as I know but has P90s.

There's also a version with EMGs.

Prices are quite a bit higher than for the regular SG1000 and SG2000. That part I really don't understand.

Higher than the SG 2000? Wow -- I think I"d run (don't walk) to pick up an SG 2000 in that case.

I can't actually find any SG1820s for sale in the USA at the moment but in Europe I think they sell new for over $3000.

There was an 1820 at the Yamaha booth at the Dallas Guitar Show. I played it for a while - really nice guitar.

Yea he's great and apparently he's been having a blast doing silly stuff with guitars for a few decades too.
