For the record: this is awesome. And yes, the OP in the dead thread violated many guidelines, but I think the mods should be happy we turned it into such a beautiful thing. Like a rose growing out of a pile of manure!
Man, that is so spot on!! See what we can do on TGP! We create beauty from......

I remember reading 2 or 3 threads here that were more funny...

.. and no I dont remember what they were. One of them was about pedal names though.

This one was no slouch, ha.

While the thread was deserving of a ban, I think OP raised a fair point (albeit in a rude and off-putting way) about some tone snobbery.

I challenge anyone who disagrees to take this blind test:
1. Play the overdrive shootout video below
2. Scroll down so that you can only view the time scroll bar. Nothing more.
3. As the different overdrives are demonstrated, make a note of the time markers of those that sound really good to you, those that sound bad to you, etc.
4. Once you've finished, go back and find out which OD pedals you should be buying.

While some might be "better" than others, I seriously doubt any TGPer could name more than 2 correctly not having seen the video beforehand.

who really cares? in the end it's just the people who obsess about the differences between these pretty bland effects boxes instead of getting better at guitar. if that's what makes them tick then good for them. i'm glad us normal people don't give a crap and can laugh at their expense (literally).

It got cached over at Google if anyone needs to see some of it.

I thought it was a little sad myself. I mean, 4 posts and the member was already flipping out. It took me about 1500 posts before my first meltdown and reprimands.

ok, so i did the test!!!!!

had it going in the back ground while i worked......

and here is the list of what i liked, purely from hearing and not knowing (seriously!):

fulltone gt500
kalamazoo lovepedal
gold klon
silver klon
new klon (lets face it, he announced it was comin next tho!haha)
landgraff dist/od
MXR classic od
rockbox boiling point
rodenberg gas OD
skreddy screwdriver
tim
timmy
ibanez TS
the paisley
plexidrive
black 65'
AC booster
RC booster
Zvex box of rock

so only two notes to point out, i picked the AC booster only, as it had a darker nature, and it seems, i like wampler pedals???? never even paid much attention to them before.

so am i a snob??? hahaha......... im on TGP arent I? haha

Is your favourite at the top or at the bottom? Your comment after the list makes no sense, unless you went backwards and your least favourite starts at the top and goes down, gradually getting better to your ears.

I'm going to do it now, too.

makes no sense?? all it says was that i picked the AC booster out by ear, and that app i like wampler pedals. (because i picked that i liked them by ear). whats confusing?

i didnt put them in any order. the only order i put it in, was the same order they were played on the video. i didnt do which one i liked best/least.
