Smile Lovepedal Kalamazoo Owners?

I have one coming! What am I expecting? I heard it's "better" than the Klon.

I dig the Kalamazoo for the real warm boosting, not too much gain on tap. It's "better" at some things than the Klon, IMO, yeah.

I love it. The sound gets better and better at higher voltages. Actually I felt like at 9v it was ok but even at 12v it made a huge difference. At 16v it really opens up and at 18v....well, i'll let you know when my series wired PP2 cable comes in tomorrow . But I can imagine it only gets better from there. There's a slight mid-boost but a lot of growl. Really smooth overdrive that is actually one of my favorite rhythm sounds now, stacked with a Marshall Bluesbreaker or a Tim/Timmy.

As for the Klon argument, well...that's up to you to decide. But it's a great pedal and does have that hint of "Klon" thing going on. Definitely not the real thing but a decent second.

Well, in terms of being a sound-alike, I dunno, haven't heard the Kalamazoo. But circuitwise they're completely different. The Kalamazoo is a TS variant--symmetrical diode clipping in op-amp feedback loop. The Klon is diode clipping after op amp gain circuit (a lot DOD250/Dist+) but with a parallel clean boost. Completely different designs.

The Kalamazoo couldn't pull off my Klon settings that convincingly at all but it does some other things pretty well and I guess on some settings it could sound somewhat like the Klon. They also have a very different feel to play I found.

I like my Kalamazoo, but it sounded nothing like the Klon I owned (and compared side-by-side). I kept the Kalamazoo and sold the Klon.
