USB multi track out
Hi,
I am looking for a mixer, audio interface or alternate method of recording multiple tracks at once (average 4?) and having them all record on their own track in a DAW (Sonar) via USB (preferably) I have seen a couple Alesis products, the Multimix 8 USB 2.0 which has 10 tracks out as USB and the IO4 which has 4 tracks out USB. Are there any other products that do something similar? I am even interested in hearing tales of inexpensive workarounds. thx |

I bought one of the tascam mixers with usb and so far it seems to work great. Certainly better than me. I also use sonar so I know it works. I think the model is 164uf or something like that. Onboard phantom power and all. musicians freind had them once for their crazy special of the day for like $200. IT'S capable of doing 12 channels but configuring them would be a pain. Plan on 6-8.

There are tons of options in a variety of price ranges, from mixers with computer I/O, to computer interfaces w/ multiple mic preamps, to high end units like the new Apogee that you'd use with outboard mic preamps.
Keep searching. There's a lot out there. In moderate price ranges, you might want to look at interfaces from MOTU, Roland, Presonus, Focusrite, Mackie, Tascam...on and on. Here's a typical example, an inexpensive interface that mixes and to which you can hook up an inexpensive set of outboard preamps (the preamps incidentally just got an excellent review in Tape Op): http://www.focusrite.com/products/au...scarlett_18i6/
