Paris

I'll be in Paris for a week at the end of this month. I always like to check the local music shops when I travel abroad so I can get some goodies that are hard to find back home or on the internet.
Maybe the Parisiens wandering in the forum could recommend some good ones? And perhaps places to avoid also...

Thank you and Merci!

I could spend 10 days in the museums there and only be warming up. OP, if this is your first time there, skip the gear hunt and seriously bask in the glow of perhaps the greatest city western civilization has ever produced.

I was in Paris 2 months ago. Believe me when I say, there are no gear shops. Enjoy the place for what it is, and go here...

Music shops in Paris are located in Pigalle, specifically Rue de Douai. But you won't find anything you don't have in the states here. So I'll second other members who say you'd better visit as much as you can in this wonderful city.

Seeing the Mona Lisa at the Louvre was worth it all. There is just SO much to see in Paris, and if you miss anything, you'll kick yourself later.

I would pass on the gear shops and go to the Louvre and then travel to the Normandy coast and get a jar full of sand.

Cant say much more than what's been said here. Paris is magical, enjoy small restaurants and amazing museums, gardens and so much history.

Enjoy your trip.

Yes, as someone said, Paris is the best city western civilization has to offer, and in my opinion, the world, so skip the guitar shops. Go visit a museum or two, see the tower, visit the market every Sunday morning on Rue Mouffetard, see Notre Dame, take a tour on the bateaux mouches, visit the Marais & Montmartre, sit in cafés for hours, enjoy the gastronomy, stroll the Saint Germain, get pastries and visit the Jardin Luxembourg. There are so many things to do there. If you're going to visit the best city in the world, forget the guitar shops. Just my opinion. If everything turns out right, I'll be there the end of May. If not, I'll be heartbroken and wishing I were there. For a great meal, go to Perraudin in the Latin Quarter. It's a low pressure place with great food. Get the confit de canard, but ask for the gratin de pommes de terres. You won't be sorry. They are cheesey potatoes like you've never had. Enjoy Paris.

I think I put 10 pounds on the few days I was there, best food ever. My favorite was the catacombs, they wouldn't ever have any tourist attractions like that in North America. Skip the flea markets, and don't get off at the chateau rouge subway stop.

The one gear shop I did find in Pigalle was pretty lame.

Gear shopping in Paris is like being in bed with Marilyn Monroe and asking for acting tips.

I'll be there in 3 weeks...Paris, Normandy, Lyon and Dijon are on the agenda. Can't wait. I saw there was a guitar show in Milan sometime in Sept I think. Not sure if I can go to Italy again...got 3 tickets in the mail from there when I was there nearly a year ago! $450 for what I think I've figured out are parking tickets. Fun.
