On guitars with side mounted jacks who uses right angle plugs???
Title says it all really. Thinking of looping the cable up through my strap which would probably lean in favour of right angle plug. Can't think of any issues.
What are others experiences?

Me, always, and always thru the strap, with straplocks.

Pretty much everyone with an ES-3x5 uses an L-plug because hitting a straight plug can lead to catastrophe on the hollow wing
![]() Using an L-plug on a strat is a bit more unusual though ![]() Looping through the strap? I do that with all my guitars! Just make sure that the straps hole for the strapknob isn't too widened and loose Because the cable will rest close to it and kind of push the strap outwards if the strap hole is too wide it could loosen from the knob easier but in my experience at that point the strap can loosen even without looping a cable through it so it's not really the cables fault to begin with. With straplocks it's a non-issue, but i've never installed those for some reason.. maybe i should ![]() Best regards -T |

And another. I've actually fashioned a short, little tab from a piece of excess leather that I xacto'd two holes through. I thread the cable through the bottom hole and then put the top hole over the strap button before I lock my straplock on. This allows for the safety loop, but also prevents the cable jacket from digging and gouging into the squared top side of the Schaller brand straplock assembly. I'd never thought much of it before, but when I noticed that happening to a $100 cable, something needed to be done (and I prefer the Scaller locks, so using a different brand with a smoother strap button wasn't an option.)

I use right angle plug with my Les Paul and always loop my cable through the strap on every guitar. I've done that ever since I stepped on my "non looped", "straight plug-cable" in the middle of a solo back in my early days of playing.
And that wasn't a planned stage choreography!

I've always used right angle plugs on side mounted jacks. The strap looping is usually the norm. The only person I've seen the doesn't do that is Guthrie Govan.
I actually placed a Locking Neutrik jack in my LP as a safety precaution. Yes, it's an overkill, but last time I let someone use my guitar, they didn't loop the cable over the strap and bent the plug and the jack.

Yes, I agree. But it was a studio situation, and I was present. I didn't think there wouldn't be any harm to doing so. I was wrong.

Only time I use a straight-angle is when I use Fenders.

Lately, I've taken to using a cord with a right-angle jack on one end and a straight jack on the other. Easy to reverse if I switch from the LP or tele to the strat. Run the cable between the guitar and the strap but don't loop around the strap button. Also, I don't loop the cable thru the amp handle, etc. on the other end. I'd rather have the cable pull out than drag the amp off its stand/cabinet.

Yeah, man. I feel for you. Every time anyone has damaged any of my guitars I've been there to see it happen. It took quite a bit of damage to several instruments and a headstock break on a vintage 335 before I finally wised up and just started saying no. I have caused virtually no damage to my own instruments in forty five years of playing. It's all been done by others.

I also always use a right angle plug, loop through the strap, and use strap locks on side mount jack guitars. Almost all of my cables have one straight plug and one right angle plug.
