Fender Princeton RI - Should I?

I have a Tweaker, a Fender SCXD, a AC15C1, a Champ 600 and several modelers (including a Mustang I), would a Fender Princeton RI be redundant?

I'd get rid of the SCXD myself, and get the PRRI.

I don't think it would be redundant. Overall I'm no fan of the reissues but I played a PRRI & thought it was pretty darn good.

I am a fan of the reissues and quite like the PRRI - great sounding vibrato and reverb - go for it!

But can PRRI sound and crunch great at bedroom volume? SCXD sounds fabulous at lower volume playing at home.

I would agree. PRRI is a great little amp. As has been said her numerous times there are some easy mods you can do to it to make it even better. With my PRRI Limited Edition I found a change to NOS tubes, a new speaker (Jensen Neo 100 in my case) and a change to a Heyboer Output Tranny made a nice amp into a VERY nice amp.

I find it a bit difficult to get overdriven tones at bedroom levels, but If I use my Wampler Black '65 with it I can get some GREAT dirty sounds.

I use a Boss SD-2 with mine - works great! Nice crunch at about 1.5 volume on the amp.

With cost and time it takes to do that type of upgrade, wouldn't it be much better to purchase used Vintagge sound, headstrong, or other boutique clone?

I don't agree if you shop wisely, besides it was fun and I LOVE the amp.........Time wise maybe 2 hours.............Cost for upgrades....about $200, but I got the amp as new for a SCREAMING price!!!

PRRI = must have
(unless, or course, you own an original BFPR)
IMHO
YMMV

Depends where you live and what you play through it. I can't get up to crunch levels with single coils in an apartment on my SFPR. Takes pedals well though.

That's what I figured. Fantastic cleans and probably awesome amp for pedals. However I didn't think it will crunch at lower voume without help. This is exactly why I have to stick with SCXD. May not sound as good as PRRI but can get me to various tones including many crunch tones without waking up my kid in the other room. 12 years more until he moves out...oh I forgot I had another one who is only 11 month old sigh...

Thank you for that reply.

Get an OCD. Takes any tube amp and makes it work for late night practice.
