How about that Little Green Wonder?

Hey guys, mind if I pick your brains on the MP Little Green Wonder? I want to get the CB version, I just want to hear every possible opinion as much as possible.

It's pretty good.

It's not that good.

Read those over and interpret them differently a few times.

Great post. TGP in a nutshell.

On to some info: I firmly believe the success of a pedal is rig dependent, not inherent. So, for MY rig, the LGW did not work out. Here is why: it does not have a standard tone control. For my rig, I set the treble eq on the amp for my clean sound, and then I adjust the tone controls on drive pedals to sound good with that. For me, I did not have enough control over the top end with the LGW. Did it sound good if I adjusted the amp to the pedal? Yes...but that threw off my clean sound....e.g., RIG DEPENDENT. So, if you're curious, check the LGW out...it might work for you.

I ended up with the Menatone Blue Collar Overdrive, which has more of a mid hump...which it turns out is what I was looking for, after comparing a bunch of different pedals. I really love how it has a tone control (rolls off the treble) and a presence control...allows me to dial in the top end exactly how I want to fit my setup.

I agree. It sounds like a tube screamer, with more gain, volume and a bit different eq, more bass and highs less mid hump. I liked the mids I got from the HBOD better.

That said, if I bought another Tubescreamer pedal, it'd probably be a LGW CB.

Nearly identical experience here. Dialing the Body control counter-clockwise yields some really neat ragged not-so-tubescreamer-esque sounds, but I wished there was a traditional Tone control in addition to the Body knob. Couldn't dial in that piercing top-end I like.

The Blue Collar side of my Fish Factory only has three knobs, but goddamn it sounds good. Thick, smooth, tons of gain, enough treble for my broken ears.

Guessing you mean the handwired version?

Well, I've heard nothing but great things about them, so I just bought the handwired one on ebay for $250.

No, I have both the handwired and the circuit board versions. And for a newbie to the drive that doesn't wanna fork out for the extra dollars, the CB would work perfectly, they are pretty darn close you probably couldn't tell.

Thanks for the info guys, as for the treble response, I don't need much of it, since I'm playing through a bright amp already (Vox). My OCD sounds perfect, and still plenty bright, with its tone control back at 10:00. I'm going to get it and if I don't like it, hey, I'll try something else.

Maybe check out the new ibanez jet driver? It has the mids & tone knob & under $100. I've never played the LGW but since it's TS based…
