Garage sale find.

Ok, so I stopped by a local garage sale today looking for gear. I asked my usual question about any guitars they forgot to bring out. He said..."yes, I have a few." he brought out this and a Epi acoustic. What year is this mustang? And whats it worth cleaned up? Thanks guys.

Thanks, I just realized I did it wrong. Also, do these have a switch to switch pickups?

I can promise it's worth way more than you paid for it

Terrible spray job on the paint. You may be able to get back to the original dakota red.

Didn't the originals have two single coils and two slide switches above them on the pick guard? Is this a different model or was it modded?

Yes it had switches. It's got a PAT. number pickup in it and a single that isn't hooked up. Pick guard might be homemade. Everything else looks original. I just put new strings on and took out the single. I'm amazed at how this little guitar screams. The paint job is terrible. Any ideas on how to remove the spray paint but not the original red?

Send the guitar to a luthier. If the previous owner had done that, perhaps you wouldn't be thinking about stripping the paint right now.

I'm not thinking about it, I was just responding to a post above that indicated the black paint could be taken off.

depends on what kind of paint it is (ugly? ). I dunno how deep your pockets are or how far your willing to take the restoration of a classic. I say sand it and re-finish it in whatever color you like its not gonna be your 401k anyway. Then remove the neck pickup and make it into the custom color cabronita of my dreams and sell it to me.

I payed less for it than the cheap Epi acoustic and that was $38. I asked him what he wanted for the Epi and he said $300 right after he said he wanted $25 for the Fender. I said really? He said he used to own a pawn shop and wanted to see stuff go. He says he has a Fender evil twin he'll sell for $300. Is that good? I might pick it up. I think I got a great deal.
