Poll: How often do you change your strings?

Do you have a set schedule or benchmark you go by?

When one breaks, or if they start to feel grimy.

Before every gig...even if multiple gigs are less then 24hrs apart.

Weekly if constantly recording.

If all else......when a string breaks

Pretty often on strats and teles to keep the sparkle. Not nearly as much on humbuckers. I have a clasical that I bought in 75. It's so old the sticker inside is for a shop in LA and they didn't even list an area code.

I've never changed the strings on that and I swear it sounds a little better every year.

When I was practicing in college, I changed them weekly. If I had a recital, I changed them about 3 days prior to that.

It depends on the guitar. I've got some that can go a surprising amount of time and the strings still have life in them. Some others and the strings are dead after a few sets worth of playing time.

Later...

Well if one breaks, I'll change that string. Definitely when they don't sound right anymore, or when the treble knob doesn't go any higher whichever is later.

My "freshest" set of bass strings is from like 2005. I play all the time.

I like my guitar strings a little fresher- so I'll change them sometime after they start getting dull and not zingy.

I try and get 2 gigs and maybe a rehearsal out of set of electric strings.

The Elixers on my acoustics go about once every season (3-4x a year)........and I gig that axe 2-3 times a week.
