There would appear to be no angle to that thing. I cannot imagine how bad the action was prior to that...

At what point does a shim become a spacer?

That was a pretty common thing back when the Floyd Rose Originals first came out. You needed to shim up the neck to get the fretboard up in order to have a floating trem.
I had a masonite shim in my strat for years until finally getting out the router and daring to angle the pocket. Glad I did, as it made a huge improvement in tone and sustain.

wow! that's almost as thick as the rosewood shims that hamer used on early guitars before they got the thicker sustain block bridge plates.
