Analogman KOT at 18V?
Can/does anyone run their KOT at 18 volts? Just curious, did a search and didn't find anything about it.

On certain pedals, increasing voltage increases headroom making them sound kinda cleaner or more open sounding. I don't see the reason why anybody would do that with a KOT which is already a very open and transparent sounding high quality pedal (= no mid hump, almost no compression on yellow channel).
You should ask Mike Piera if it's doable. |

I recently received my KoT. In my haste to try it out , I accidentally plugged an 18V wall wart into it. After nearly a week of using it this way, I realized what I had done.
After realizing my error, I switched to my 9V One Spot. Fortunately, no apparent damage was done. Perhaps Mike can comment on this as I've been curious myself. I really didn't notice any difference between 18V and 9V. I don't see any need for additional headroom or openness with the KoT - it's got plenty of both and I'm lovin' it.

I asked Mike when I got my KOT and he said to run it no higher than 12 volts, but said 9 volts was fine and was what he recommended

I don't know about 18, but Mike definitely has said 12 volt is OK, and that's the way I like to run mine!
http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho...d.php?t=728139 maybe he will chime in about 18 volt... |

roquero, I think I remember seeing that info in an earlier thread, thanks!
I have NO intention of experimenting with 18V without hearing from Mike that it's safe, but I was curious. I think it's a GREAT pedal at 9V! |

HI,
It depends on the filter capacitors we use, I think they are normally about 15V, you may be able to read the #s on them, the large can caps in the middle of the board above the DIP SWITCH. Sometimes we mount them on the back of the board so you may not see them. It's so hard to find good quality through-hole parts now, every time I order, the old parts are discontinued and I need to find a replacement. 18V will be safe for a few hours but may blow up the caps after an extended period. Everything else (chips, etc) can handle the voltage. But I don't think the sound is improved with higher voltage so I do recommend 9V, 12V is also fine. have fun!
