Pedal efficiency surprises tonight at gig! Rockett and 3 Leaf content
So I've been wanting to trim my pedalboard down to a mini and had to make a few cuts. Got to a point where I had to scrap my clean boost in order to get a tuner on the board. For a two set thing tonight with horns, keys etc, I set up the following;
3 Leaf Proton > Jetter Red2 > Rocket Josh Smith dual trem (turned vertical) > Retro Sonic Delay > Turbo Tuner (all tucked on a mini with a Fule Tank Junior) So here are the surprises: 1) I used one side of the Josh Smith as a trem and the other with the depth all the way down is a GREAT clean boost. I've owned several clean boosts and this is as good as anything I've tried - very transparent (OK, maybe the slightest bit fatter sounding, might just be that extra push to the amp) tons of gain on tap and stacked well with the gain stages. 2) Using the filter and a subtle trem setting can really start to sound kind of vibey/phaserish, particularly with a little gain thrown in. Considering that I use a phaser maybe once a night, it's friggin' close enough. Once I get my Memory Lane Junior with modulation, should be more than enough swirly stuff and I still have a great tremelo with two speed settings if I need it. 3) Open the gain all the way on the Proton, keep the peak around 11:00, get both gain stages going on the Red 2 and it gets a pretty interesting fuzz kind of tone going, very horn-like and sits well in a mix. So, just some cool stuff I kind of stumbled on due to a little forced efficiency from a smaller board. |

Nice! I like hearing about how people get by with less pedals. (I LOVE pedals, but I try to use only a few at a time.)
