Thumbs up Mad Professor Amps

Who here uses a Mad Professor MP101, CS40, or new Old School amp?

I'm curious what you guys (that have owned for some time) think about the amps. I'm also wondering what kind of reverb you MP101 owner decided to use.

thanks,
b

MP101 is a great amp. Nice clean, crunch and lead tone. Took pedals very well. Nice bottom and top end. You should be very happy

I've seen Mark Karan play one with Ratdog....not sure if he uses it with Jemimah Puddleduck (his band). He's a member here and posts once in a while, so maybe pm him?

I used to own a Mad Professor CS-40. I will preface these comments by saying that I love Bjorn's work. At one time, I had 20+ BJFe pedals and every MP pedal. So needless to say I couldn't wait to get my hands on the amp. And....it was a total let down. For an amp that is marketed as the world's best amp, I can't tell you one thing it is clearly head and shoulders above the competition at. It is very flexible, but I just didn't find it to be amazing. Maybe I got a dud, or maybe I should have tried different tubes and more cabs? But in my opinion, it's good, but not great.

hey now, mark karan here. i have both the MP-101 and CS-40 and they are both incredible amps... very musical. the CS-40 is ridiculously flexible and sounds great just about anywhere you set it. the 101 is considerably less flexible, but gets a surprising variety of sounds, feels & sounds great and has definitely become one of my "go to" amps.

in ratdog i use a two head/wet-dry rig with my two-rock for clean tones and the MP-101 for mid-crunch/bluesy stuff and serious singing saturation tones... great stuff!

as to reverb... when not doing the wet/dry rig i've been using the neunaber wet pedal or a lexicon LXP-1 modded by jim williams in southern california.

lemme know if you have other questions...

Hey Mark. Thanks for the post as well as the pms you have sent. Honestly, after wanting an MP101 since becoming aware of them, it was hearing you with Ratdog that finally got my butt moving and found one. I bought it from a TGP member and haven't looked back since. I love my 101.

Right now I use just it but I want to eventually incorporate either my SLO or Aiken Sabre into the mix for a dual amp rig.
