What other amps do 'vox ac15' that aren't a vox ac15

I'm looking for an amp that does the ac15 thing, but isn't necessarily a vox BUT is in the same quality/price point

Any suggestions?

Not against the vox, just curious, lots of things do fender and Marshall for all price points, just didn't know what was out there for vox.

Which AC15 thing? Top Boost or EF86 preamp?

There have been a lot of amps called AC15. The original '50's and '60's models were mostly darker EF86/pentode based. This is the channel Matchless borrowed for the H/S/DC30 drive channel.

Most of the ones from the last couple of decades, the Marshall-built AC15TB/TBX and the Custom Classic and Custom series aren't AC15 RI's but a AC30 Top Boost channel scaled down to 15 watts. Top Boost is the tone many people think when they think "Vox."

There was the recent "handwired" AC15's that offered both.

You'd like the Morgan DAG15. Not the same thing, but a kissing cousin.

I'm not quite sure which sort of AC15 you're using as your price-point reference but I'm waiting on Magic Amps Brit MK2.

I've heard uniformly great things from a number of people such as Danocaster Dan, Jeff Senn and Paul Cochrane about them and that plus some pretty convincing YouTube clips was enough for me to place an order.

That certainly rules out my suggestion and I imagine most of the others you're gonna get. I think the Chinese Voxes pretty much have that price-point to themselves for that style of amp.

I'm really digging my AC15C1. New they can be had for a bit over $500 (Guitar Center 15% off sale). I've owned a dozen boutique amps and tone wise this can hang with them.

Yep. Looking at C1 or CC1. With some simple nods you are the park...

I went to a Night Train a couple amps after the cc1 but it's not the same.

First time I have ever heard anyone say they enjoyed their Custom classic AC15. At least before they mod the junk out of that thing!

If you refer to the AC15h1tv...I have that amp, and it's not that bad. Not the BEST Voxy amp, but it's not awful. I have heard that the vintage EF86 circuits ARE darker than the Top Boost counterparts, but at least on my amp there isn't that much difference. It's actually a pretty bright amp overall. Just thought I should "chime" in.

Vox and Matchless are actually pretty different according to everyone I have talked to. Vox amps, at least good ones like the top boost RI's, have a grittier sound. Matchless have a similar idea, but are more "pristine."

If you want a good Voxy amp, I suggest Morgan. Call Joe up, and talk tone. He is supposed to have a great customer service attitude.

That DAG15 is looking reaaally tempting...
