Tophat Club Royale
Hi folks!
I have a 2006 Tophat Club Royale 1x12. I really like the amp, but i miss another speaker in it and a bigger cab. One of my friends have a 2x12 Club royale, and I was wondering if its possible to put my amp in a 2x12 amp cab and add a speaker. Basically to make mine 1x12 to a 2x12 Club Royale. I really hope you can help me. Best regards Bjørn Denmark |

You can get empty cabs from TopHat. Email Brian to see what he has in stock. I emailed him a few months ago. He had a couple old block logo cabs and newer ones.

Yes, email or call Brian. He will sell you one. I bought an extra 1x12 cab and of course he uses the same chassis for all Club amps.

I found this one on eBay.
Is it a complicated operation to add a extra speaker to this cab, when my Club Royale is 1x12? http://cgi.ebay.com/TopHat-2x12-Cabi...#ht_500wt_1156 |

The Club series speaker out is set up for 8 Ohms. If you get that cab add another 8 Ohm speaker, you will be at 16 Ohms wired in series and 4 wired in parallel. The amp can handle the mis-matched impedences, but tube life may suffer. The best thing would be to match the impedence by getting 2 new speakers, perhaps 2 16 Ohm speakers wired in parallel.

I had 2001 and 2005 Club Royales, both wired 2-8 ohm in paralell for a 4 ohm total load. Never had a problem, in fact I think Brian prefers them this way.

Interesting, I did not know that. I did not say a 100% mismatch would be a problem, just not optimal from a tube life perspective. If Brian prefers it this way, then the OP has it easy if he decides to persue that cool cab on ebay with the vox cloth.

I had two 2x12 Club Royales, both were wired for 4 Ohms. Great sounding amps!

Yeah, there used to be alot of discussion about this on the Tophat Forum. The outcome was that paralell 4 ohm wiring provided a brighter, cleaner more in your face sound that favored the Voxy Tone of the CR. Series 16 Ohm wiring was quicker to break up and favored the Marshally Tones.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I've had 4 TopHat's. 2 CR's and an old CD with Vol Tone Cut have come and gone. Currently I have a 97 Scripty Club Deluxe in Green that got factory modified to have the cut act as a Master. All of them were 1x12's.

Funny, I have an empty 2x12 Top Hat combo cabinet from when I did the opposite and converted mine to a 1x12. PM me if you are interested!
