Dirt Dilemma

Hey everyone, I'm on my third try at a medium gain pedal and still not happy.

The last two that I've tried are a Rockett Flex Drive and lastly a Bearfoot DRD.
Though I do like the touch sensitivity and gain on both of these pedals, I just can't get them bright enough for my taste. Too bassy or mid hump, I guess.

So now I've decided to abandon the single tone control route and look at pedals with a three band EQ to better shape the sound. From what I've researched, the three options that I've found are:

Montreax Knebworth, Wampler Plextortion, or Solid Gold Superduper Drive.

Anybody have experience with any or all of these? Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks.

no experience with any of them... but wilson effects and cmatmods appear to have OD's with 3 eq controls.

again no experience with them but they certainly seemed priced well.

Xotic BB MB has an active three-band eq. Very responsive to knob-twidling. (But then again, who of us isn't?)

Look into the Tech 21 Character series. I have a Leeds, and the tone controls offer wild changes in tone with surgical precision.

Also, the DRD has a totally flat eq. If you hit it with a lighter drive or boost with emphasized highs, you should be able to get plenty of treble from it.

I have a Tim on the way, so that's why I was thinking of holding on until I could try them together.
A flat EQ on the DRD? I find it really mid/bass heavy.
A booster is a possibilty that I haven't thought of...

If your looking for a mid gain pedal and the normal tones arn't cutting it I'd recomend trying a Proco Rat. They are a bit different.

Just remember to try the FULL range of the filter knob to hit a sweet spot.

I have this DMB Lexi drive. Med gain. It has no mid bump and a "bite" control.
I like a brighter, bitey Marshall tone, but half way is plenty.
