I heard the drop-dead date is the 15th in order to open training camps on time.

Yup, but they need some time for free agency to play out too...

I'm excited, tbh. Basketball and football both in a lockout. More time for baseball season, and now I'll get to fully realize this love of hockey that I picked up during the playoffs.

These guys are just millionaire crybabies. Please don't talk about hard times when taking a snap nets you more money than a majority of working Americans will make in a year.

Everything has been rolling in a positive direction the last few weeks. There's a ton of details to sort through but it sounds like they're getting pretty close on the big deal points.

I'm still betting on a full season with a shortened pre-season. Teams with the most continuity from last year are going to benefit out of the gate.

Reports from San Antonio have Alamodome officials saying they have a "tentative" schedule from the Dallas Cowboys to begin moving equipment in on July 25th and practices beginning on the 29th (and the stadium reserved through Aug 13th).

What everyone thinks of Jerry Jones is immaterial here, but he IS very well connected and definitely "in the loop". If the Cowboys are planning to start practicing on July 29th, I'd take that as a positive sign. For those of you who seem to live and die with this sort of thing.

Pro sports is losing me again. I stopped, ftmp, watching nba many years ago. Baseball lost me in '94. I watch hockey but only occasionally. I never watch car racing.

nfl is all I have left...I hate Goodell and I'm convinced the sport that we get back will be a watered down version of offensive basketball...it degrades every moment this fool is in there.

I hope they strike...for many years.

They might be the last real winners of this stupid game after Goodell gets done destroying any semblance of Defense...all in the name of "expanding the product".

Apparently, Rog' thinks female fans are turned off by people getting hit too hard...in football. Take the wrecks out of car racing and watch how the sport dies.

More doom and gloom from the mecca of doom and gloom...The Gear Page.

When the game comes back, it will be as strong and popular as ever and make even more money (for everyone) than ever before. For everyone one of YOU who says they will leave the game (but really won't), there will be two more to take your place.

I feel similar. How is one supposed to have a desirable/fearsome defense if there's no risk?

Enjoy baseball and hockey while you've got them - baseball's cba expires in December of this year and the NHL cba expires at the end of the 2011/2012 season (sometime in July 2012 I believe).

It's not inconceivable that all 4 could be shut down at this time next year.

Also I just saw that retired NFL players filed a class action lawsuit and are seeking an injunction because the current negotiations only include the owners and the current players. The retirees claim that the current players are willing to cut retiree benefits to increase the current player salaries/benefits.
