Two-Rock, are they really worth the $$$$ ?

Hey guys, you hear a lot of talking about these amps and how they're so great, but what makes them better than the other dumble-style amps and more importantly, are they worth the hefty price tags ?

Yes and no.

I've owned several TR's. Although I only bought used.

New Two Rocks are cheaper than other Dumble-style amps--Studio Pros and Gain Masters are less expensive than Bludotone, Fuchs, Glaswerks, Quinn, RedPlate, Welagen, and all the others I left out.

Firstly - The term "Dumble style amp" has no meaning at all.

As for 2 Rocks - they do share some thing with Fumbles. Where do you ever see, or hear one, to find out if they might be worth anywhere near the crazy price tag ???

wait on - I did find one in Australia - in Melbourne - only 1000kms from my place and wow - how cheap it is for a 50 watter with very limited features - on sale for only $5945.

I believe that Two-Rocks are worth the dough. Amortized over a lifetime of enjoyment, (because they are keepers), I think that they're a bargain. Try to find a used Emerald Pro or K&M Custom. They aren't that steep.

UD Reks it is entirely inaccurate information to say that they are less expensive then others when your effectively comparing a 22 watt amp to a 100 amp.

An accurate comparison might be one of those amps compared to a Quinn Church Mouse.

Church Mouse is $1750 for a loaded combo at 22 watts.
Studio Pr loaded combo cheapest I can find real quick is $2300

In an apples to apples comparison my 22 amp costs about $550 less!

Carry on...

Why the facepalm? I have enough self-insight to understand e.g. that an expensive Ferrari is not worth its price to me, without driving one. Same thing with lots of stuff, e.g. amps.

I've bought a couple of TR amps that I didn't like that much so in that sense they were not worth the $$$. I have also bought many other Two Rocks that I love(d) and in that sense they were worth the $$$. Like many other amps that I've bought from other builders...some were worth the cost and some were definitely not.

Right now I have a Type 3, a TS1, and a Custom Clean and love all of them. They were expensive but I get so much enjoyment from playing them they were definitely worth it to this mediocre guitar player.

Your TKT 183 preamp is definitely worth it to me. I'm sure your other amps are also a good deal.

The newer Two Rocks are also a good deal.

This really gets at the heart of the matter, and why dumble-like discussions ultimately go nowhere. Before reading this post, I was about to use the analogy how it's like comparing expensive cars to less-expensive ones. I could expound on how much "better" that (I've heard) a Farrari is than say a given mid-priced sports coupe, but if the buyer doesn't want to pay the price differential and just doesn't see the need to go there, it's a trivial discussion. I don't have an amp or a car like that, but that's just how I see it.
