Les Lius Help/info

Is the new Les Lius offered today the same one as a year or so ago that was tan with white knobs..
My experience with it was that it was very trebly sounding..If the new one is different I'm tempted to order it again..Thanks for and response...

The one that is in stock is version 1 with the dark knobs. I currently have the one with the cream knobs. This weekend I am looking into what makes them tick, as it may be something I can build. I have not checked to see what the differences are, but any info I find this weekend, I will put here. I want a non-midbumped clean boost, with a tweed OD in one box. Since the Lovepedal stuff is based on that old guitar distortion thingy, it would seem there would be a myriad of ways to improve on my basic idea with that circuit as a starting point. I can't believe the tweed voicing is just coming from the clipping diodes?

Mine is gold with black knobs. Through my setup, I'd say that it's anything but trebly.

My question is why are they going for 250.00+ on eBay but you can get them for 159.00+ at PGS...?

What are the difference in the different releases?

I have a tan with brown knobs. As far as trebly goes...have you tried EQing your amp?

That price is wrong on ebay. I have bought and sold 2 for 160.

I googled and found this on an old thread somewhere in the ether. I am not the I in the quote...

Quote:
I spoke w/ Paul who is one of Sean's techs at lovepedal and he said the only difference is the box color
Altho the knobs are also a different color.

Are the 5E3woody & HIGH POWER TWIN amps?
What exactly is the Master Vol TCHULA circuit.
Thanks in advance!

Do NOT listen to the marketing hype. These are not "amp modes."

The "modes" switch is simply a 3 way toggle to select three different diode clipping setups. A lot of distortion, medium distortion, or light distortion.

One mode is symetric with a ($0.25) 1N914 solid state clipping/distortion diode on either polarity. Another mode is asymetric with a 1N914 and a BAT46 diode on one end and a single 1N914 on the other. The final mode is symetrical with both a 1N914 and a BAT46 on either end.

There is so little to the pedal circuit it is ridiculous... therefore cheap and easy to build. It's a fun little pedal, but not worth $160, nor anything technical enough to call "amp modes."

It is simply a single solid state transistor with a 3 way distortion/diode switch - that is all there is to it. The Boost switch simply grounds, or lifts from ground the Boost pot (wired as a variable resistor).

The LL can be summed up as follows:
1. The "tweed tone" simply comes from the large input, and a few larger coupling caps.
2. The distortion comes from hard solid state diode clipping. The SS diode clippers can add fizz on the top end, depending on the amp/guitar.
3. $25 in parts (considering the metal box is about $10, the jacks about $3, and the pots about $3, the footswitch about $5 - that leaves about $4 in actual circuit parts cost) sold for $160 and marketing hype claiming "tweed amp" tones in a magic box.

.
I guess some sellers are trying to take advantage of some buyers...

I paid less than 150.00 for mine on eBay not that long ago.

BTW my info is from TDPRI. Would it be ok to link the article? There is some good stuff on the LL in that thread.

I noticed this and was thinking the same thing? Why the difference in price?

Maybe because they were out of stock for a bit? That is my only conclusion. Pretty much everyone knows what they are now, so 160 would seem to me to be the top price anyone should pay.

I would 2nd what Charly G wrote about the LL. There is no difference internally between the LL that were made. The difference is the box ( fancy paint, etc) I own the creme colored one, too. Its a great pedal, and I discovered that I had to work my tone knob to unleash the potential sounds.
