Isn't it funny how G.A.S. works?
Everytime I buy something nice & expensive I say to myself "self, you've spent way too much, you're cut off". It usually works for a while (anywhere from a week to a year), but then you hear something that catches your ear or see something that catches your eye it's like "self, maybe we do need that".
Another thing I've noticed is how different it is when something is in front of me. For example, I've been Gassing HARD for the Timeline, but it's sold out everywhere, and I am completely happy with my pedal board (so I think). Then I see a post from someone about a Timeline available from a dealer I know and I'm on the phone with them! Luckily they were sold out. TGP is drugs for a gear head! Gear G.A.S. is worse (for me) than car gas, clothes gas & electronics gas. Ugh! |

GAS is terrible, although the Mrs. has recently been a good sanity check whenever 'self' pops up again with a suggestion!

Same here man, and when you put in perspective gear is friggin EXPENSIVE. It's like I debated for a couple days on whether to buy a new pair of Vans laces for $40, but if there's a pedal that's awesome and under $150 my mind says go. A riding lawn mower costs less than my guitar...Really?!

I find I have GAS for several things at one time and can't afford everything. I then go nuts trying to figure out how to raise money and then nuts trying to prioritize things. Then, usually the car needs to be repaired or the kids need dental work and my GAS goes to the back burner.

I've been down the GAS path before but it doesn't really exist for me anymore. It's not that I decided to spend more time playing and less time shopping. I just came to the conclusion that I'm happy with what I have.
I spent years chasing the holy grail of tone/feel only to be disappointed that what I just got wasn't as good as what I got rid of. I'm so glad to be done with all of that. Of course you never know when the sickness will come back stronger than before.
