original TS808's

Have original TS808's lost their luster? I see a bunch on ebay for a lot of money.

Yeah, luster still seems pretty high, if the price they're selling is high. They've lost their luster, if the price falls, and no one buys them. And that ain't happening apparently.

Yea, there are just a decent number of them out there I guess, so they pop up often enough for sale, but don't misinterpret that for decreased consumer value of the pedal - the price speaks to that, despite the supply you notice on feebay and what not.

I guess some people on TGP see that as greedy, but I don't see it that way personally, or as a slippery slope (toward the slaughter), it is just the value and is probably not worth selling for the original price (if that is what you would suggest would be 'pigs get fat'). If someone took good enough care of a vintage one and the value is pretty high, they deserve what people are willing to pay IMO.

I recently went on a TS binge and found out that it's all "hype". Bought a Ts808 HW, RI, and original. I just went back and used my trusty MJM Phantom Overdrive.

Tubescreamers are where it's at for me. They are the be all end all of overdrives. I recently realized that more than half of my drive pedals are all Tubescreamers, Tubescreamer clones, and Tubescreamer variants. I can never have too much Tubescreamer in my life.

I'd love to pick up an original 808.

I guess I would say it is not worth the price either, since I don't plan on buying one. I would love to own one, but my Silver is doing a pretty nice job for me.

I looked at the 808's a while back and ended up buying the TS9. I can't see spending that extra money for what (to my ear) is not much difference. In fact, I would prob rather spend the extra money on a analogman silver mod than going with the 808.

I do love tubescreamers though.

I sold my original a few years back for $650 can .It was a great sounding tubescreamer but not 600 dolars better than my modded ts-5 or my stock ts-7 .

this all brings me back to what are they worth? I have an original that I bought new in 79/80. It looks old and has seen a lot of use though none in the last 3 or 4 years. It works perfectly. I'm trying to fund an amp purchase/build. Not sure if I really want to sell it yet but at the same time if I can get good coin for it, why not?

2011 Vintage Guitar Price Guide says $500-750. Of course, this is for an all-original specimen in EC, but also keep in mind that these annual price guides have fallen out of favor lately, with prices being driven almost entirely by ebay, etc. I thought about picking one up to complete a vintage rig ('81 Strat, SFPR), but just couldn't personally justify spending over $500 bucks on a pedal. Anyway, best of luck.
