If I could go back in time with today's money!

Has anyone ever seen a 67 Firebird 12 string?

The Johnny Smith was right at the top - where it belonged.

They made about 225 Firebird XIIs. A buddy of mine has at least one in his FB collection.

That's really pricey for the 60s. $2000 or so? Not sure.

In a sense guitar prices haven't changed for what you "get" all that much, even with all the new technology and whatnot, which is a bit suspect.

'67 V's are pretty sought after. Only a little over 100 shipped. Pretty valuable...

Those are retail prices too. Most retailers sold Gibson for 35-40% off retail. So you would have actually paid alot less for any of those gtrs.

I don't think gear was discounted very much - if at all - in the mid 60's. Maybe in NYC, but not in your average town.

That $1000 Johnny Smith is equivalent to almost $7000 in today's dollars. Pretty expensive then. Here's one available today for $6500 - maybe less with a bit of haggling.

Just goes to show that not ALL vintage guitars go up in value when inflation is considered.

They were all so far out of reach for me back then. IIRC the minimum wage at the time was around $1/hr.

Yep. Minimum wage was $1.00/hr in 1967, so you'd have to work a LOT of hours for a Johnny Smith back then.

That's $2700 in today's dollars. Which is, roughly, what they cost now.
